Hill vs Mangum

Everybody is saying Taysom Hill is the future of the BYU football team. But everybody is missing something. Tanner Mangum (who was a heavily recruited QB) recently left on his mission. This would be his freshman season. ESPN Recruiting gave him a score of 80, while giving Hill only a 75. Since I haven't seen Hill play a whole lot and haven't seen Mangum play except for highlights which don't tell you anything I haveto beleive that Mangum is better. Mangum would get back from his mission when Hill is begining his junior year. Mangum could redshirt a year, then be a back-up for Hill for 1 year. That would give him 3 more years of eligibility. Or he could beat out Hill for the starting job. They could also go the 2 QB route, but i hope they don't because of what happened with Nelson and the other guy splitting time at QB. Thoughts?

Not a concern right now. Let's see how Hill matures. Not even in the same league athletically having watched them both on the court. Both are grounded and have nfl upside.

This assumes that Hill stays for 4 years, doesn't get injured and is as good as we hope he is. If any of the above are not accurate, we will need Mangum early.

Yep. If Hill pans out--I think he will--it will be like transitions from Gifford Nielsen to Marc Wilson etc.

Good point outside of Heaps they were both higher recruited than anyone they have had in ten years. My guess is BYU fans will fall in love with Hill if they return to a pass first mentality. He just has so darn much athleticism the coaches felt the safe thing was to let him run the ball against Boise State.

Sounds like, for once, things are lining up nicely with some legit QB's who also have legs.

Rankings out of high school mean very little. Let the best play and forget about high school rankings.

Mangum isn't even a freshman right now. He's going straight on a mission. Mangum won't be a true freshman until Taysom Hill's senior season at the earliest.
