The Case for Riley Nelson

Did you realize that Nelson was quietly putting up better numbers than Hill last night?



Last night's passing stats:

Hill= 4/10, 42 yards, no touchdowns.

Nelson= 7/9, 61 yards, 1 touchdown.



Now, three of Nelson's completions, 36 of his yards, and the touchdown were all to Broncos, but those things can be fine tuned.

To be abundantly clear--you should read the OP as if it were dripping in sarcasm.

It was a mistake to replace Riley when they did. It should have been the prior series or sooner - not on the 1 yard line. BYU survived that fumble and incredibly, had a chance to win.



I was saying No, No, No on the two-point conversion.



And suddenly, there we were again, kicking off with little time left on the clock, no time-outs due to squandering them earlier, giving up a big return, unable to get one last stop, and defense still unable to create a turnover to help out its poor offense.



Spenser Hadley, when asked if the d and o were starting to turn on each other said no, they support each other, and the d has already been talking about their need to create turnovers to help out the O.



This team does behave like a team. I am proud of all of them in these tough times. Something is clearly wrong with Nelson. BYU needs to quickly bring Hill and Lark along.



I am sure Heaps would have gotten another shot @Utah had he not bailed.

Maybe there is a quarterback controversy at BSU now...Nelson or Southwick?

I almost cried at how easy that INT was for Boise.

Actually, the should have benched Riley after the INT in the redzone. Apo was wide open and Riley threw the ball 8 yards short. He simply couldn't put anything on the pass. If Riley had been able to get the ball to the endzone, BYU is up 7-0.



Huge mistakes by Riley for not telling coaches how hurt he really was to the detriment of the team. Huge mistakes by the coaches for refusing to see how hurt Riley was and couldn't make the throws he previously could.

Sadly, we gave up this season and next season for 2 wins (at most) last year because Riley Nelson is a good guy and a leader (although, I would dispute the leader part a little bit).
