The Silver Lining

Folks, this defense is for real. There isn't a team left on our schedule that we can't beat as long as the offense holds on to the ball. If Bronco needs to do anything, it is to go into the offenses meetings next week and say, you can throw, you can run but you can't turn over the freaking ball. BYU could use Taysom Hill as QB, or Lark, but it can't use a gimpy Riley Nelson who turns the ball over. BYU Wins last week and this week if we have 2 0 turnover games. Our defense can shut down ND and GT, we don't need an awesome offense, we need a clean offense, I would take a bunch of 10-7 victories if we can run the table from here on out. I am now fully in the Taysom Hill camp, he should be given the ball with priority #1 being to be a good steward of the ball.

My concern is, how long will we have this level of defense? We have a lot of seniors on the team this year. So how much drop off next year? Having an elite defense is great but, with a crappy offense, much of the defense is going to waste. We're still losing games.

We are not talking about next year, we are talking about this year. Next year will be different depending on the experience level of our QB. If Taysom gets to start and proves to be a good steward of the ball, with more practice time we can start opening up the play book. By next year he will be fine. I have a feeling that Bronco will field a good D next year too. :)

Last I looked we still had 8 regular season games and a bowl game left on the sched. The season is far from over. If we can groom, probably the most talented QB we have had since S Young this year, we will have a good shot of being really good next year against a very challenging sched.

Agree frtbr. We have a quarterback who is scary good as a runner and totally had Boise State on their heels on that last drive. The future is bright with Taysom Hill.

We will have a very good defense next year. Maybe not top 5 like this year, but it will be top 20.

Silver lining - our D is legit. The goal line stance from the one is legend - Bronco challenged them to come up big, they responded, and gave the Y the momentum to win the game. If our offense quits turning the ball over, and learns how to control line of scrimmage and have a balanced run/pass attack, we are scary good. Personally think that this game was Hill's coming out party - just like Riley's last year vs USU. We have a QB - let's saddle Hill up and give him the reigns. Time to support the D and win close games. IMO we had the momentum to win both games should we go into OT.

Dude, be sure to close the door on the way out. With this defense, we will be in EVERY game this year. We get to watch the best defense BYU has ever seen. The games will be nail bighters. I for one can't wait.
