Complaints against Bronco

Here is what I am reading today after another heartbreaking loss.

"Bronco doesn't care"

"Bronco is a bishop who puts football 5th on the priority list"

"Bronco is a good dc but a bad head coach"

"Bronco only wins 10 games per year" (yeah, don't get that one either)

"Bronco only wins easy games"

Guys, I am as upset as ever, I can't believe we have lost 3 times in a row to our most bitter rival. My favorite Mish companion is a ute fan and I still think of him as a good friend but the last 2 years in a row he has posted this saying on Facebook "when you are living right on and off the field, magic happens" It infuriates me.

I don't know what the answer is, I do know that Bronco Mendenhall has done wonders at BYU with the talent that we have had. This is his most talented team to date and unfortunately they didn't get it done again against utah. If Bronco has a failing it is his ability to mentally prepare a team. I think he does a masterful job at getting them physically prepared but for some reason kwhit has his players more mentally prepared to perform.

That is his weakness. Treat every game the same ... really? Weber and Idaho should be treated the same as Utah, BSU and Notre Dame and GT?

Ute fan here,

Couldn't agree more with this post. I am pretty shocked to see all of this hatred towards Bronco. This was a rivalry game, and it was a nail-biter. Utah winning by 3 was honestly just as expected as BYU winning by 3--you can't really predict what will happen in these games.

As for poor coaching, I keep hearing fans point to penalties as proof that Bronco was out-coached. BYU lost 75 yards on penalties while Utah lost 112. Which was the team "out-coached" in this regard? More importantly, Utah had penalties that were FAR mor costly (e.g. face-mask instead of safety, PI in the endzone, fans rushing field--and yes you can blame this on coaching because the coaches ran out on the field FIRST). BYU's penalties were mostly false starts. In a loud, belligerent stadium, this is far more acceptable than silly face-mask and personal foul penalties.

Furthermore, why isn't anyone talking about the 24-7 comeback? THAT takes excellent coaching and an extremely well-disciplined team.

Your offensive line was your true problem. False starts and that costly miscommunication that cost you the game. Re-channel all this hatred towards your o-line and o-line coach--not on Bronco who is a phenomenal football coach.

Who hired the OL coach and who keeps him around despite being a horrible coach.

The team, the whole team, is Bronco's responsibility. If something isn't going right it's Bronco's job to see it gets taken care of.

A company goes bankrupt, no one blames the middle manager.

I was sort of following until the baloney about this being Bronco's most talented team. Really? Confused me thinks. I think you meant "This is Bronco's most challenging schedule".

Let me help

We still do not have a fullback. A good fullback blocks for runners, picks up blitzes, runs and bulls ahead when your front or back are at the goal line, catches passes out of the backfield, and provides a safety valve on blitzes or screen passes - and....

We do not have one inspite of all the hoopla about Pritchard being the 2nd coming of Manase Tonga.

Tight end. Friel is emerging. He is not Pitta AND George.

OL - worst one of the Bronco era. Worst one. Three newbies. New center - converted. Like Okie in 2009 or so.

QB. I like Nelson. Best option right now. Gives us chances to win. When is the last blowout loss under Nelson? Last back-to-back loss to Utah or anyone else loss - last back-to-back loss to USU staring us right in the eyes. He is good. He is Kevin Feterik good, so far. Back to OP - so far he is not John Beck or Max Hall good. So far.

Defense. Maybe. But had they held Utah to 3 and out on their last possession instead of giving up that huge play on the pass behind the line that came all the way back around behind the line and then turned up for 30 yards.......

More time on the clock ...more timeouts ...who knows.

Special teams - definitely not. No field goal kicker. Giving up big punt returns.
