I love that last year after the game people were out after the quarterback with torches and pitchforks, and this year it is:



"Sure the qb could have played better, but pin this loss on the offensive line..." (My words last year) .... AND YOU ALL WERE OBLIVIOUS TO THAT!!!



Now we have people out in full force picketing the lines with "The Oline must die. Fire Weber!"



Well, which one is it?







(BTW, I completely agree that it is the offensive line that is the primary unit not functioning, and that Riley is one of many wheels that isn't working, as I said last year. It's just too bad that we had to drive away a quality qb because some of you couldn't see the forest for all the trees. I was on here a year ago exactly battling back the ranks of "Heaps sucks, he had plenty of time! The Oline is great! Time for a change at qb!" And now suddenly there is none of that?).



And for all of you that preach the PER doctrine... what do you have to say about a 111 PER for a Senior starting qb? 89.2 at halftime?

Unfortunately, Heaps was a mental midgit, and could not handle even the smallest bit of pressure. Say what you will, Riley did not fold like Heaps did last year.



The offense as a whole needs improvement, starting with the o-line, then Doman. His play calling has proven to be boring and predictable.



*Note, I am not calling for Doman's head, but he needs vast improvement, or he needs to just focus on being QB coach again.



Offensive line needs a new coach. Period. Weber is awful.

I disagree. RIley folded in this game. THe difference is that the defense actually played 4 full quarters. If they gave up midway through the 3rd quarter again this year, like last year, then we would have had about the same score. The only reason we got that TD in the 3rd is because we go the ball at the 9 because of the defense, and then put in HIll and Williams.



Take away the defensive effort the second half, and we get a score just like last year. Riley looked disinterested and not vocal at his guys. He wasn't a leader last night for 4 full quarters. He wasn't even a leader for *one* full quarter.

@Blue is better, I couldn't agree more. One defensive TD against BYU and Riley's body language went down the drain. He had his head down on the sidelines and looked like he needed to poop on the field. So much for him being a great leader especially for a senior QB. If it wasn't for a set of Freshman, we wouldn't even have been in the game.

That's it! Im blocking you Blue! I knew you were Nelson-hating, Heaps loving little sister.

Riley almost pulled this game out for us despite not having his best game. He was under constant pressure and used his legs to get out of many near sacks or throwing the ball with Star/Kruger right in his face. He capitalized on what good field position our D gave him.



Primary problem last night was Tushaus being manhandled by Star as was Hansen with Kruger. Additionally, Apo was missing in action - that hurt us severely as we didn't have lots of open WRs.



As for last series, his 4-12 completion was a thing of beauty and drawn up in the huddle. No completion to Hoffman and we don't have a chance to kick FG. Don't think for one moment everyone wasn't thinking Doman replay dajavu for the win.



Yes, Riley made some mistakes, but it's hard to be effective when your OL can't hold off a head of cabbage with heavy artillery.

There are SEVERAL reports that Apo was open most of the game, and Riley just didn't ever look that way, as he was locked in on Hoffman (who has troubles releasing from dbacks that press him).



The announcers even mentioned it a time or two.

I don't know. Why don't you remind yourself and the rest of us what Jake Heaps' PER vs Utah was last year. The OL was mediocre last year. This year. Simply Terrible. Simply terrible. Same OL Coach - and a totally inexperienced center, and two other newbies.



Then. Look at the bad snap to start the U game in 2010. What did Jake do? Then what did he do? What was the outcome?



Fast forward. 2011. What Did Riley do. And after a lineman grabbed his facemask and threw him out of bounds, what did he do? Outcome.



And when the team melted in 3rd Qtr 2010 - who did not settle them down and get them back on track? Fast forward - 2011 - who did rally them back and put them in a position - even with no time-outs and after the almighty defense gave up about a 30 yard play - that if the kicker could make a field goal when given two tries - OT. In fact, if the kicker had not missed earlier in the game ......



Those who continue to be blinded by a man crush on Jake Heaps need to realize - he married a woman - get yourself a new man.

One MAJOR problem was that the goal posts were 6 inches to narrow. The blame rests clearly on the NCAA's silly regulation of goal post width...

On TV you could see Apo open several times, but Riley doesn't look back across the field. I'm just glad this is the last year of Riley Nelson...Love him or Hate him, he is a controversial figure and needs to just go away.

Unfortunately, when Riley goes away Apo might do the same. Hopefully T Hill has some cred built up with him to make him stay.

Unfortunately, when Riley goes away Apo might do the same. Hopefully T Hill has some cred built up with him to make him stay.

I believe Apo has already redshirted so the chances of him transferring are slim since the would lose his junior year.

Once again, the savior of the team is the guy not on the field. If BYU could just find a way to play only backups and freshmen all the time. Then we would be awesome. It's always our starters and upperclassmen who are holding us back!

Short memory our fans have. Just 2 years ago we threw a guy into the fire too early and lost one of our highest regarded recruits for it. Freshman rarely succeed when started too early. I don't care how bad Nelson looks this year, you either play Lark or keep him in and develop the young guy for the future.

I agree that Lark should be played with Hill coming in more often to mix things up AND give him experience.He should also have clean-up duty for the whole last quarter, if not the whole second half against our 2-3 end of season patsies.



But Hill is a 21/22 year old RM who has so much more maturity than the true freshman Jake Heaps. I think comparing Heaps to Hill is comparing apples to rotten oranges. Not the same thing. I also think Williams and Apo need to be more of a focus. Apo went from a TD per game with our "horrible" Heaps throwing to him, and is now a ghost figure.

This has been my fear since Heaps left. Prob wont happen because he doesn't have a redshirt but why can't our QB's use Apo and Haufman? Clearly Heaps had a favorite and Nelson has a favorite. I have a hard time thinking Apo can't get open when Heaps isn't throwing to him and the same for Haufman/Nelson. I don't think he'll leave but I wouldn't be surprised if he's not happy and we hear some sort of Mike Reid type soundoff when he's done.
