What has to happen for Bronco to get fired?

How long will the fan base tolerate destroying the patsies, struggling with the decent teams, losing the big game 90% of the time and ALWAYS getting outplayed by your biggest rival?



Bronco (and Riley) is great if we always want to be 10-3 or 9-4 and win against another mid-major in a nothing bowl game. As an independent, when all we have is our "big games" to excite us with no conference race or BCS bowl game, football season becomes no fun beating up D2 teams and losing to every good team we face. I could have tolerated the loss to the U if we were still playing for a conference championship; but it feels like our season is now over.



If we want to beat the U, ever again, or bust the BCS, or become a team like BSU, TCU, or (gulp) Utah (who at least manages to play up a few notches for their rival), Bronco is not our guy. Poor preparation for good teams, maybe because he is too busy worrying about firesides and picking out his wardrobe :bug:. Maybe he is too busy preaching the other 4 priorities that come before football even though football is his job and should be coming first while performing his job.



I guess my question is how many more times will BYU tolerate loses to the U and other big teams we "should" beat, or at least be in the game, but still have 10-3 and 9-4 seasons, before we fire Bronco?



Next year we would be lucky to be bowl eligible with Riley at QB and this O-line. Hopefully our coaches can make some big boy decisions and FIRE WEBER, start using Hill and Williams more, get Apo more targets, etc. But I have no confidence in our staff doing what it takes to win big games any more. I hate saying this but I think we need to put Bronco on a short lease and if things don't improve by the end of the 2013 season, it will be time for a new coach.

I wouldn't want Bronco fired for any Reason.

I think he at least needs to string together two seasons with single-digit wins before this becomes a serious discussion.

What if we get worked by the U again next year, at home, and lose every one of our "big" games this year and next year, ending this season 9-4 and next year 7-5, even if we win our bowl games against mediocre mid-majors? Would this be enough?



I don't think he should be fired yet. If he can pull off at least 2 big wins this year of the 4 remaining tough games (including USU) and make the other loses competitive, he would deserve one more year. But if he loses to USU this year and gets embarrased by a few of the other teams, I'll be calling for his job this year.



If he loses to Utah again next year, I will call for his job.



Bronco is a great D-Coord and a horrible head coach. He is a great GA/bishop but a horrible motivator, schemer, strategist and at preparation. I say give him until the end of the year to change, and maybe next year, but he needs to be on a short leash now!

Wrong wrong. I am as critical as many about some things BYU football. But Bronco is not one of them. And the only stakeholders that matter are the BOT. DOnors matter but not completely. If 9-3 happens without Crowton-like breakdowns, he won't get fired.

Weber? Has to go. Doman better figure it out as well.

We aren't even headed in that direction. We're spinning our wheels, living off cupcakes and excuses.



If fans are fine going 10 - 2 and playing in the Armed Forces bowl, then Bronco is your man.

The funny thing is, in the 80's BYU feasted on patsy's and lost to the big boys. That has been their criticism from day 1 even with lavelle. I don't know what the answer is with BYU's mental issues with utah but I know Bronco tries to get his team focused every year. I don't know why our guys don't actually do it and come out tight every year. I am getting sick of it.

But about last night, the only solace you can take from the game is that we didn't get blown out--an annual Bronco trademark performance. Utah sucks this year and they still handled us in most aspects of the game.

Mizzou ... BYU did not play well last night ... but they did NOT get "handled" in most aspects of the game. 1 STAT is where they lost the game: Turnovers. (Yes, false starts was also one that was bad ... just plain discipline there. Ties in to the bad snap/fumble ... O-line fail.)

Sure, in the 1st half they converted 3 straight 3rd and longs on our defense when we might have had a chance to get up on them. Hays, a backup, had all day and picked us apart early on. That gave them all the momentum and made sure this would be a low-scoring game. Advantage utah. I cheered every time they ran because their pass game was effective.



Their Oline handled our rush no problem. And as usual Bronco's pathetic up the middle blitzes were picked up as well. Their Oline was dominant and ours sucked.



Their Dline handled our Oline. Their 3 man rush put pressure on Riley. When they blitzed Riley ended up on his back every single time.



Stats only trump in this game if you didn't watch it. Sure we put up some yards, but per usual our blue zone offense sucked and we turned the ball over. I'm not sure what else to tell you. Utah handles us every year regardless of how bad they are.



Now, I would like to hear from Schmoe how Bronco has gotten us to national prominence.

You are PARTLY right ... our O-line was BAD last night. (KSL gave them a D- grade, and that might be generous). I think I already gave you that one though .....



BUT I disagree about their line ... Hays was layed out several times, hit as he threw, sacked ... generally battered and beaten. KVN and Ogletree each had sacks and hurries ... stats count there too, unless you want all of us to accept your mental recall of the game which includes Riley being "on his back every single time" ... which is great hyperbole, but factually wrong.

Either you were watching a different game or your irritation over the loss is clouding your memory. On all 3 of those 3rd and longs, Hays got pounded right as he let go of the ball. He throws a split second later and either we get a fumble or a sack. Give the guy credit, he made good plays there. He payed the price though because his accuracy started to suffer soon after.

Of course, that doesn't make it any better. In fact, it just shows we shot ourselves in the foot (again) and gave the game away (again). If anything, that's worse.

Have we forgotten that we lost to the U with their starting QB, RB and 2 safeties out?! Pointing to the stats to say that our offense was better than the U is like saying our 1's are slightly better than their 2's, and anyone who watched this games knows these stats to be misleading. Utah was very effective at converting third downs, and once they got the lead, they went ultra-conservative and was fine giving the ball back to the BYU offense. Getting a bunch of yards once behind and running out of time is not uncommon. Comparing stats through the first three quarters would more accurately reflect the performance of this team. Utah played safe the 4th quarter.
