BYU had more passing yards (206-196), more than double the yards rushing (106-49) and 11 more first downs (25-14) than the Utes, but came up short in the only stat that matters â points.

Like I said in another thread, BYU executes properly on the 60 yard punt return, 2 fg tries and one fumbled snap and BYU wins this game. the game turned on 4 total plays. And even better, the game really turned on the fumbled snap, so if BYU executes that one play we likely win the game.

Which is why it hurts so much. I don't know how utah got the mental edge on us but they have it. That is why I have insisted that utah will be our toughest game this year. Now that we lost this one in a heartbreaker IMO the Boise state game has just become our toughest game because this one is going to be hard for the guys to get over in such a short time period.

UTah has out executed BYU in all 8 of the games since 2005. Bronco's execution-based approach is failing to yield results in this game. If we're going to always lose at least 2 games every year under Bronco, how about we stop making one of those teams Utah?

So forget that we out played them in every phase of the game....... And I don't think its Broncos fault that ball got snapped when Riley wasn't ready.....

Blaming Bronco?

Game turned on 2 plays (IMHO) ... 1) interception. Riley didn't look or would have seen Hoffman signaling he was breaking deep and not across; good read by Hoffman, mistake by Rile. 2) Bad snap. Miscommunication somewhere. 28 point turn-around by those 2 plays (BYU did not score, and probably would have, plus :utard: hung 3 TD's around those 2 plays). Sad.

BUT, I do wonder where the emotion is. Bronco doesn't get the guys up, I wish he did. I still remember when he came to BYU ... THERE was an emotional coach/leader! I miss that :~(

I do place a lot of the blame on Bronco. You would think that after 7 now 8 years, that Bronco would know that this isn't "Just another game". His coaching approach to the Utah game clearly hasn't worked. When we win, it's on a last second, last ditch effort, and when we lose, it's because we implode at some point during the game.

When it takes your offense 2 and a half quarters to settle down and start playing effectively, then your team is not being adequately prepared to deal with the pressure and emotion of a game such as this. Bronco needs to figure this out before next year, or there is going to be two years of bragging right to the :utard: and then we'll likely get blown up again in 2016.

Whittingham: Play with Fire, Play with Emotion, Force Turnovers, be Smart with the ball.

Bronco: It's just another game. Execute to perfection. Or have 8 false starts, fumble the ball a dozen times and throw the ball up for grabs for whoever wants it. Oh, and play overly-conservative, not even getting a single point from a long punt return and missing every field goal attempt.

Also, if there is only 8 seconds on the clock and you have no timeouts you want to dance around for a few seconds, then wind up and throw the ball as hard as you can up into the air, so it has the slowest arch you have ever seen.

His arm was hit as he threw. I don't think he had much control over the arc and trajectory at that point.

It really is too bad Riley didn't have weak arm. If he had a weaker arm, the ball would have hit the ground much sooner and there would have been more time to try another play.

In my opinion...the PLAY OF THE GAME was the FIRST PLAY. The missed snap in the endzone Riley had to jump on. If it weren't for the facemask...we would have been down 2 and kicking to the YEWTS on the second play of the game.

THAT...my friends...set the tone for the game. It showed to me that the offense wasn't ready. :munch:

Yep, the "here-we-go-again" mentality for both teams and the crowd set in from the first play.

In another thread, someone posted BYU's record when scoring first on the opening drive. I think a lot of Ute fans were very scared of the BYU game. An opening drive TD would have silenced them very quickly. Instead we bungled the first play and their anxiety quickly changed to delirious joy.

If Riley had a weak arm, then he wouldn't be able to get the ball to Ross Apo so frequently when he gets open on the deep routes...
