Shoulda/Woulda/Coulda.

What should BYU have done to win the game. We're talking offensive side of the ball. BYU needed to get to the magic 24 pts that Greg Wrubell spoke of earlier this week. How SHOULD they have gotten there?

I went with more running. It was working as long as it didn't include the option. Would have liked to set up the pass with the run. Getting to the outside saw some good gains. Alisa, Williams both had some nice plays running the ball.

None of your four limited options would have, because (i) they all depend on the same crappy OLine that was failing miserably from the get-go, and (ii) none of that was working for us until it was too late. If we had gone with Hill, I don't know that anything would have changed with the way play calls were going, and Lark's reduced mobility would have had him getting sacked like a veteran hooker for the night.

I keep saying that BYU needs to use the emotion in the rivalry game to focus on execution and not just play hard. That would have changed the outcome. BYU came out and was trying to play too hard, but wasn't focused. It cost us execution, a perfect example was the 60 yard punt return where 3 BYU players overshot the runner allowing him to cut back causing them to miss the tackle.

How about just falling on a fumble instead of trying to pick it up --> we win!



The only thing we needed to do differently tonight was play our game. Cut out all the lack of focus plays and we win the game. A personal foul that puts them in field goal range, 47 yds? A 62 yd FG wouldn't be made. We had control of our destiny and for whatever reason decided to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Mid-way in the 3rd, Hill came out for the first play of a drive. Wrubbell said something to the effect of "this may be Taysom Hill's game for a while" and Lyons agreed with him. So did I. Alas, it was not to be. The OLine had a penalty, of course, and HIll came back off the field. A different QB gets my vote.

Disagree. If you're Doman, you know your line and what they can do. Play to those strengths. If that means more running plays, do that. If it means leaning on the arm and legs of RN do that. I think Nelson had entirely too much responsibility placed on him to make everything happen. Getting the running game going would have done wonders for Riley and for the passing game.

I simply cannot fathom how you could possibly be sitting at a computer and typing with a straight face that "getting the running game going" would have somehow been "playing to our strengths" when the running game, behind our abysmal OLine, has been the least functional part of our playbook this season.

I kinda thought the running game was as good as it needed to be to win. Heck listening to the media this week I thought maybe we would have - rushing yards for the game

You mean the Ute Dline that's allowed an average of 100 ypg after playing Northern Colorado and USU to date? :roll: Nice to know we're hitting the average posted against those guys with a 2.5 ypc tonight.

Not a total replacement of Riley. But if coaches codnt see that our bRight star was gassed, flabbergasted, and needed a substitution for a series, then bad on our coaches. It's what's wrong with our Offense--it is totally dependent on the qb running. And Riley's legs have their all but he was gassed!

The correct answer is to have played a different QB (Heaps) and to not have signed Riley post-mission.
