We ARE little brother

It's official. Utah owns us. 3 years in a row in embarrassing fashion. They are faster, meaner, and just care more...with a backup QB and RB no less. There is no argument left to refute this.

They didn't make the mistakes we did, which has little, if anything, to do with being faster and meaner, but caring more? Sure seems like you hit that nail on the head, we tell ourselves it's just another game, then freak out when the atmosphere is totally different than a normal, and by the time we settle in, half of the game is already gone.

Yes we are get over it nothing is going to change anytime soon.

Exactly. We don't have the mental cojones to play on the road. People will point to the fact that we will beat USU this year (and we will because it's at home), but that does not make us anything but an average football program. Utah has officially passed us up and it just sucks.

Bronco is little brother. Maybe little foster brother. Or cousin. I dunno.

Utah is still "little" brother, who happens to be smarter, faster, more athletic and just plain better than big brother. It is like watching an 18 year old get beat arm wrestling or at bench press or sprinting by his 16 year old brother, when the 16 year old is just average for his age. We suck and little brother sucks less. We just really suck!



What makes this worse is that our 14 year old brother, USU, is starting to pass us up too. Time to start working out, eating right and making some changes if we don't want our 16 and 14 year old brothers to take our birth right!

At some point the 16 year-old manned up, got a job, and is now providing for the family while the 18 year old sits in his room quietly and reads his scriptures. We are for all intents and purposes little brother.

THIS is the part the annoys me the most about this team. As I posted on another thread, it is almost as though the coaches think they can opt-out of the hype and excitement rather than harnessing it. If they don't harness it, it runs them over. That seems to me to be how the game started last night.



I hold Bronco in VERY high regard, but can ANYone explain where the young, passionate, emotional and explosive Defensive Coordinator we got from New Mexico went? Can ANYone explain how treating every game the same is a good idea? Really? Treat Weber and Idaho the same as Utah and Notre Dame? I just don't see it. I didn't play ball at the high levels Bronco and Doman and those guys did ... but I always understood emotion to be a big part of the game. What happened? (Kyle still has it ... and they won ...)

I'll admit it. We didn't play like we wanted it last night. Utah came to play, simple as that.

Perspective -





BYU had more passing yards (206-196), more than double the yards rushing (106-49) and 11 more first downs (25-14) than the Utes. 7 false starts hurt, momentum killers, and personal fouls gave Utes breathing room. We had a chance to win this game, but came up short in the only stat that matters – points. Other just as important stat, and a glaring one at that, +2 in turnovers lost. We also need to shore up our FG unit - missed kicks killed us - cost us the game.



Good news - all this is correctable - not as bad as last year. We can right the ship and have a successful season.

This is what I want to know too. Bronco looks so miserable on the sidelines. I really think he is starting to detest his job.



Bronco's lack of emotion on the sideline has a different feel to it than LaVell's.

Actually - from my fifty yard line seats - they looked faster. Many teams, not just U, BSU and TCU are faster. And they owned the line of scrimmage their D vs our O.



That is almost universally true every year.



The differences that mattered



Our special teams, though good at times, made more critical mistakes than their's did.

Our OL, especially center, was worse than their's was

We turned the ball over more than they did

We had more confusion in getting people on and off the field, than they did - and we're still in the game with a chance to win and would have at least tied if we had not wasted our time-outs





Better execution - and we would have overcome the speed and athleticism issues.

We missed 3 field goal attempts

We over-ran put coverage early - and then u speed killed us

We let the end come all the way back around late and burn us with his speed

We had two horrible snaps and sloppy snapping all night

We had too many turnovers even though some were called back

Pass protection was terrible

I noticed the complacency start to settle in with Bronco about 2007. We saw some of it again in 2010 after he took over the DC job again but the complacency is still there as a HC.
