Can the defense contain John White?

I saw this question on the news bites board. Two reasons I think they'll hold him very in check. 1. Holding vaunted running backs has been a hallmark of BYU defenses for a long time, especially if said running backs are getting a lot of press as being the ace that will propel their team. 2. John White's big mouth. It's hard to run for big yardage with both feet in your mouth. He's thrown the gauntlet down. The BYU linebackers are currently polishing it.

BYU's defense is a proud unit, reference oggletree's response when asked if he was surprised we held the "air raid" to 244 yards.

1st Half - White had 9 carries for 18 yards and said running against BYU was like "hitting concrete."



2nd Half - White had 13 carries for 163 yards and 3 TD's.



Why the difference? Could it be the fact our D, which is very good against the run, had thrown in the towel?



Not to mention the fact that White, if he plays at all, will not be 100%.



White is one of the least of my concerns about this game.

You are right about the way the game unfolded, but the bottom line is, all everyone remembers was he had close to 200 yards on our d, it doesn't matter how and why and that is why I think our d is out for redemption this year. I don't think utah's offense will do anything on our d this year and that is why turnovers are going to be the most important key to victory this year. If our o can keep from turning over the ball, we will get the decisive win that we all want. If we have 7(or even 3 or 4) turnovers again like last year, we lose.

might as well ask the same question reversed.



Can the Yewt O-line create holes for Johnny "gonna-pound-em" White to run through?

The only thing that cannot contain John White is his own mouth

In a word, Yes. BYU showed it can contain John White last year. I'd be surprised if he gets half as many yards as he did last year.

When White runs for 100 yards, Utah wins.



When he doesn't, it's often a different story.



He won't get anywhere near 100 on Saturday.

White will probably not play, and if he does, not play much. I expect to see the 2 PAC-12 backups they have play more.

I heard a rumor that BYU is ditching the passing game completely and running the wishbone! Will Utah be prepared for that? TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW! (TIC)

No, but the U coaches can. Rumor has it that He hasn't been practicing. Even if they want him at whatever is his strongest, most rested, he will not likely be at full strength.

I wishes he was so we could beat him down and kick him in his own town.
