Measuring Stick - What The Weber State Game Will Prove

Nothing - unless we lose or look Terrible, Simply Terrible.



So - how do coaches, players, and fans get up for a game like this?



The Bibster - as usual - has some suggestions



The "F" Word. "FUN". Have Fun watching it. Get up just for the "F" of it.



So - where will all of this fun come from



Points - expect lots of scoring. More TDs. No - not 84 points. The foot will come off the gas pedal at 49 points, if not sooner.



Shutout. BYU might get one.



Mid Field - can BYU keep Weber State from crossing it? Might - but probably won't and may even give up some points - because



Everyone will get to play. Your favorite player, hyped newcomer, un-hyped new comer, un-sung veteran, your little brother, cousin, schoolmate - they are all going to see the field - and make some plays and make some mistakes.



Some injured players - that have healed sufficiently - will get some real action to test things out and get back in synch



Running: BYU is really going to try to prove they can run the football - and they will run for over 200 yards. Some due to improvement. Some due to level if competition.



This game will not measure much - but a comfortable win or possible blowout should nudge BYU into the Top 25 and keep BYU ranked slightly ahead of U.



U will provide the most meaningful measuring stick so far this season. Then BSU will measure us. Then ND. Maybe GT. maybe USU or SJSU will put up a little bit of a fight as could OSU or UH.



Have FUN folks. This season will be over before we know where it went.

This isn't a game BYU needs to get up for. This is a game shouldn't get up for. I think teams only have a finite number of games for which they can get up for. Each team has a different number each year. This isn't a game to wast that on. Sep 15 is.

Weber St. is a better team than the Utes played last week. So in that regard, it will be interesting to see how we do against them.

Playing in-state games can never be taken for granted - local HS teammates and rivals have too much to prove about bragging rights and career improvements to make anything seem insignificant. Bronco recognizes this and is expecting his mature (senior laden) team to not take it easy but be focused. He wants a similar chip-on-shoulder attitude that was present in WSU game. The intensity is supposed to carry over to UT.

Show Up may have been a better word choice in my OP. This certainly is not a game coaches, players, or most BYU fans would circle on the schedule. Maybe a Cougar fan with a Wildcat Spouse, Boss, Parent, Sibling, or Co-Worker and a desire to get in their face - not nice folks.



Certainly not a game where the Rivalry Word should be uttered or even thought about.



Just a game where coaches and players need to plan, prepare, focus, and SHOW UP. Fans just need to SHOW UP - wearing Blue of course.



My son is coming to Las Vegas for Law Firm internship interviews and I had to be here to let him in the apartment, or I would have stayed in Utah. Alas, I have given my season tickets to my son's room-mates and I will be watching the entire game on BYU TV.



It will be far more interesting and entertaining for me than any other game that day.



I will also find the U game vs USU interesting - get to Scout 2 future opponents in one game. I heard this game is scheduled for Friday night - and it isn't even General Conference week-end.



Ironic that PAC 12 teams have to play WAC teams on Friday Night to get any EXPOSURE.



Simply Ironic. Or am I jumping to the wrong conclusion - I assume this game is on ESPN??????

The goal of this game is to get up early, sit the starters, then let the players deeper down the roster get games reps. Other goal is to gain confidence in the scoring zone by getting TDs, not FGs. Simple as that.



I suspect that the D will also have a goal for a shutout.

Weber State game will prove whether Bronco has changed his tune on running up the score.

Though Bronco may not run up the score, I'll bet he would love a shutout.

I still think we take them like 52-6 or something like that. That is a reasonable score vs. an FCS foe.
