Watching the Michigan St/Boise St game

Like I've been saying, Boise State is not going to be a pushover, despite so many new players. Any BYU fan who thinks we're going to go up there and just dominate hasn't been paying attention or is in denial. Boise State's strength is the built in system Petersen has created, which helps him to reload rather than rebuild. And few, if any, are better than he is at X's and O's. His teams never quit and they usually seem to find a way.



I'm not saying we can't win. We can. But it's going to be a very, very tough game. Especially considering we have a short week after playing Utah and they play Miami (OH). And we have to play up there where they've lost once in 6 years.



Don't kid yourselves. Our guys better strap it on for this game.

So do you think that msu's d is better than ours? A lot better?

No, I think our D is a match for their's. Maybe better. I worry about Petersen's superior X's and O's. Plus the home/away factor. Plus relative difficulty of games the week before.

I haven't been impressed by bsu. The msu rb has outgained the entire bsu o.

No, they won't be a pushover, but this game is VERY sloppy, neither their O nor D has been particularly impressive. They should be thankful that MSU receivers have a hard time catching and holding onto passes.

Has anyone actually watched the whole game? By the looks of the box score it looks like BSU is extremely fortunate to be in this game. It doesn't sound like Peterson's X's and O's have been that big of a deal, but turnovers are the main story.

Ive watched almost the whole game. MSU has completely dominated, but keeps turning the ball over. BSU shouldn't be within 3 scores of MSU right now. The MSU RB has physically dominated the BSU D, and has outgained the entire BSU O by himself.



BSU just isn't that good folks.

So if their D is a match for our D, then you just saw that Petersen's superior x's and o's won't help them much. BSU fails to score an offensive TD. Sounds kind of familiar.

Whether they "should" or "shouldn't," they are. And they're playing away against a solid Michigan State team.



Nobody is saying this is the same caliber Boise State team of recent years. They're vulnerable. However, when you take all the factors into account, BYU fans shouldn't expect a walk in the park. Expect a tough game, folks.

Man, I was really hoping they'd win this game, so when we beat them it looks good. So much for that.

BYU can run a similar D that it ran against WSU and shut down BSU's offense. The big question will be how much BSU improves in 4 weeks until we get them. Their QB was in his 1st start and it showed. Their D is good, it will be interesting if we are able to run on them better than we did against WSU. BSU and Michigan state are both over rated IMO. Michigan states offense is horrible. That QB of thiers is terrible.

I'm confused. BSU has a good defense but yet gives up over 400 yards to a bad MSU offense? Including getting trampled by MSU's RB?

Outside of Le'Veon Bell, everyone on the field looked horrible. Sparty should have won by 3-4 TDs but for 3 picks and a fumble (BSU's 2 turnovers notwithstanding).



Before this game I thought we had a 25% chance in Boise, now I'd put our chances at 55%. BSU will have a month to prepare, we're the only quality game on the rest of their schedule and it will be in Boise on a short week, after we play @RES. There are plenty of cards stacked against us but I really like our chances, whereas before this game I didn't. We'll see.

MSU receivers also let a BUNCH of passes sail through their hands, or bounce off of their hands (twice resulting in picks - one returned for BSU's lone TD)

I said this over the summer...if we can run on BSU we win. Their strength on D is their CBs and safeties. They are very opportunistic and so we need to keep turnovers at a minimum. Playing at BSU is VERY difficult. I hope a senior laden team rises to the challenge. I'm not sure yet if we can run successfully. If Riley throws two of the balls at BSU that he threw in the WSU game, they're picks. I think our D can hold BSU under 17 points. It comes down to the run.

Every opponent we have this year is beatable. It is too bad this game is not in Provo - we might be favored. It is too bad we did not play them today. They will improve a lot in the next three weeks - inexperienced teams do. BYU will improve somewhat - experienced teams start stronger with less room for improvement.



BYU offense has more room for improvement than the BYU defense - inexperience and lightly practiced RBs and OL might improve a bunch. They will if they can. They need to improve to beat our 4 toughest road opponents.



I do not expect BYU players to be in awe of BSU, Bronco Stadium, or the Blue Turf. I do wonder, however, if it camouflages defenders and increases the risk of a pick.





I did not see the BSU vs MSU game - but folks - it was a road game. This is why the play anyone anywhere philosophy is a trap that teams like BSU, BYU, and TCU let people goad them into.



IDK if BSU played MSU straight up or 1 and done or 2 for 1. I bet they wish MSU had travelled all the way to Boise and played them with jet lag.

As hard as it is for me to cheer for BSU, it would have been better for us if they had won that game.

Much better. Not hard for me to cheer for any Western team playing an Eastern team or any little guy playing a team from SEC, Big 12, Big 10, PAC, ACC, or even little old beaten up BEAST, or ND. It is not hard.



Either way - a BSU win, with no other difficult game besides BYU would have given us the opportunity to beat them and still have them end up highly ranked. Even so, they might not lose again - other than possibly to us.

How so? Boise is a run-first offense with a star RB in DJ Harper. WSU didn't really run it at all against BYU.
