Practice This Week...if it were me

If I were running the show, I would use the same game plan and plays we ran against WSU against WSU this week. The majority of my practice time would be preparing to play the :utard:



Then I would spend the last 15 to 20 minutes going over the same plays we ran against WSU. No need to tip off :utard: to anything. And we really need the win this game this year. :munch: That should be our focus this week and next.

Interview of Riley seems to have indicated as much. No brainer.

BYU beat WSU last night without opening up the playbook. My guess is Brandon Doman has something special for utah this year. I have been saying it when others have criticized Bronco for seeming apathy over the 54-10 score from last year that everyone is still smarting over that game. BYU isn't going to give utah any more film than it has to for utah to study before the game in a couple of weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if BYU uses next saturday to scrimmage its running plays and gets the starting line out (cody hoffman) of the game very soon.

I'd have them go against the 1's on defense from the 10 over and over and over again. Need to learn to score reliably down there.

Absolutely. Game planning for the Utes needs to happen this morning and everyday thereafter. We'll see what Boise is made of tonight, but we have to beat down the Utes. I hate the fact that I care so much about this game this season.

Hope we are able to game game film of Utah's game considering that nobody saw it.

Nelson almost spilled the beans last night. They got some stuff up their sleeves he started to say. Then stopped and said there is more.

Boise prep Friday, Saturday, Monday.



Clean up and fix the problems of WSU and prep for Weber Tuesday-Friday.



BYU has a full week to get ready for Utah. That is enough. The boys will be ready for :utard:



This is a mini-bye that BYU has now. Use it to double prep for Boise. That game will be tougher than Utah. The nation will be watching and put more stock in the Boise game than the Utah game.

I don't like this idea, because it's like, "Okay, learn all this stuff. Now, temporarily forget it and learn this other stuff, which you will actually be using. Then, forget the other stuff and remember the first stuff..." This is why you take it one game at a time. Much less confusing.



Remember, Boise has a short week, too. Michigan State is going to knock the crap out of them. They may do some bye week prep for us - hopefully, they're mostly just licking wounds. But it's a 5 day turnaround for them, too. I don't see it being a huge disadvantage for us. Sure wasn't in '06 going to TCU...

I agree. I am willing to bet Doman has been studying utah's defense all summer and has some stuff he will use in that game to try to catch utah off balance. There is no need to try to implement it until game week though.

I recently watched the '01 Utah game - which, not coincidentally, Doman played in - and I was shocked how much weird razzle dazzle was tried on both sides. We ran out of a split line (3 left, 3 center, 1 right) a couple of times, they threw in a tackle eligible pass... It was crazy. And, for the most part, not terribly effective. Now, it's still good to do somtimes just to keep them honest. And other times, if you can set it up right, you can sucker them into a perfect situation and hit a home run. But for the most part, I hope he's figured out ways he can get matchups that we like, and stay out of ones we don't. After all, LaVell Edwards won a lot more against Utah than Gary Crowton.
