Riley Nelson to Safety

So while this is old news today it would have been very interesting last year when there was all the speculation about putting Nelson as safety. It seems that Bronco was persuaded by the idea and actually approached Nelson to do that. Nelson declined.

"I actually tried to convert him to free safety," Mendenhall said. "I approached him to play on the defensive side of the ball, as I coordinate the defense, because I have such respect for him."

Thought that was interesting.

I admit i was guilty of this same desire.



I maintain that it would put him in the best position to play at the next level a la Eric Weddle (although he doesn't seem interested in the NFL).



However, that switch probably wouldn't give the team the best chance to win.

I'll admit to thinking this was a good idea at the time.
