Will BYU score more than 14.5 vs WSU...

In season openers vs D-1A teams, Bronco's teams have scored 14.5 ppg and allowed 14.5 PPG. #BYU is 4-2 in these games.



IMO we will more than double the points on offense and hold WSU to a typical opening season average. Too many O weapons, retooled O scheme, up tempo O, monster D and unproven adaptation to Leach offense by first game of season. BYU wins big!

If we score less than 20 in that game we lose it. The offense is going to have to come out ready to score against a mike leach led team.

Over. I believe we'll be closer to 35.5 than 14.5

I think it's more likely a New O from Washington St comes out more flat than a BYU O led by a returning QB starter.

Except Wazzu has a poor D, and just moved to a 3-4 scheme. So not only will our team be able to use our base D to prep the 1s, but they can be really aggressive with it in preparation for what Wazzu might try.



We will be the most ready since Hall's senior year. And Wazzu is no OU on defense.



We hang over 30 on them. Just hope our D will slow them down enough to get the W, because they will be legit on offense. In a way, they will be like an old BYU team--gotta score to win.

I want to believe spiff, hawk, and lawboy more than mizzou and gunk but I just can't let myself until I see it. I am hoping really really really bad that our offense is good this year. I can't wait until the mizzou game.



we wont know how good our offense really is though until we play Utah. I am really holding out hope that we start 3-0. If we lose to utah I may just have to jump off a cliff this year. I cannot take it in my ward for another year.

Some perspective needed when evaluating the offense.



RB - We just had Juice transfer to FSU - he was supposed to be the backup behind Alisa. Turns out he left because of a perceived future lack of touches and playing time. The competition at RB is fierce and depth is great. Because we have multiple options to establish a running attack, our passing game will open up.



WR - There are 10 WR vying for the number 4 spot behind Cody, Russ and JD. Among the notables: Mitch Matthews, Dylan Collie, Brett Thompson, Terren Houk, Cody Raymond, Dallin Cutler, etc. This spot is very deep and offers a lot of versatility.



OL - The projected starters R. Matthews, B. Hansen, H. Reynolds, B. Stringham, B. Brown played very well during the second scrimmage and opened up big holes for the RB and allowed Riley, Lark time to complete passes to a multitude of WRs.



TE - Marcus Matthews is legit and will step up in the tradition of former TE. Holt, Wilson and Friel provide good depth and another year of experience in the system.



This offense doesn't resemble prior O systems, and is focused on up tempo, high volume of plays. We will keep the WSU D on the field for extended periods of time, and wear them out.



Enough said about our D - WSU will be facing a Bronco prepared D (solid DL, outstanding LB, and very good DBs/Safeties) which will have a lot of wrinkles for Leach to try and digest.

IF you want to rely on past stats as indicator of future results, and point to the 14.5 avg for game one, then you also have to look at this one--BYU averages 44 per game vs. Wazzu.

I am with you on this one Lawboy. Question is will BYU score 44 points or more on August 30? I say probably not, but they won't have to. I think we win this one 35 to 14.

I am going with a 28-14 BYU win.

True...but when past stats reveal a trend, I tend to side with the trend until shown that the trend has been bucked. Which, it hasn't.



BYU's offense ALWAYS comes out flat. Even in that epic win against Oklahoma. We hardly moved the ball except for a drive or two in the 2nd half. Defense won that game for us.



Last year we had a "new, prolific" offense led by the soon-to-be greatest BYU QB. This year, we have another "great, new" offense led by some experienced players.



Our o-line is nothing to shake a stick at. They got all those "holes" in the scrimmage game against the 2s and 3s. I'm not expecting much from either camp. I hope they prove me wrong. Except for Alisa, our RBs have hardly any game-time experience. Alisa only has half a season as RB under his belt. And, greatness in practice against 2s and 3s doesn't translate into greatness on game day.



Leach, is a better coach than Bronco. He runs his guys through twice as many drills as our coach does. So, using BYU as a barometer as to how well WSU's offense will be prepared is dumb. It's his opening game in how many years? He'll be looking to make a statement.



Only thing that has me hopeful about this game is our defense and the altitude. Thankfully, our defense comes out on fire.

The first string offensive line has hardly had any time to mesh and play together. doing well against the 2 and 3 string defense does not make me feel better about that. they have been our biggest problem the past two years in my opinion. I am not as confident in this group as others are.



You also didn't mention quarterback. Riley is no Max Hall or even John Beck. He has a lot to prove in my opinion. He makes questionable decisions on a regular basis. It is what makes him good and at the same time a liability.



I just don't see our offense coming out and clicking on all cylinders. I see them dominating weak teams and struggling with good teams as usual. Good thing is that I have not heard anything to be concerned about regarding Washington State's defense.



I think BYU will score more than 14 points but 44 would be too much to predict for me. Maybe more like 21 points.

If BYU doesn't score more than 14.5 against WSU, we will have a losing season.
