Riley Nelson Improving per DSB

I read this article on DSB. There are 2 threads on this board, one saying BYU will be lucky to go 8-4 the other saying we are in store for something special. If we are to believe the opinion in this article, I think we are going to be closer to the "something special" thread than the eyore thread saying BYU could possibly go 4-8.

The Bibster has already guaranteed six or more wins and Bowl Eligibility no matter what - literally. 6-6 is the absolute worst this team will do. 4-8 ain't gonna happen. Absolutely will not - this year. Not in 2012. For sure. 13-0 could happen - there is a 5 or 10% chance. But 4-6 - zero chance.

Nelson is the same QB- Bad decisions, ugly throws, interceptions. Just a whole lot better. High completion rate, ability to sustain drives, etc. His strengths make up for his weaknesses, even if he is no _insertgoodqbsnamehere_.

Nelson will be better but his mistakes will cost us close games. He is a good quarterback, not great. one thing i do like about him is that he is smart. i expect him to be a lot better than he was last year but still be limited.



my biggest concern is that our offensive line won't be able to protect him or create holes for our running backs when we play good teams. riley was clearly upset on saturday that he still has not played with the same guys in front of him once this fall camp. olines need to play to gether and build chemistry. that is not happening.



i just don't think i can stomach losing to utah this year. i may have to move out of utah if we do. if riley wins us that game i will give him a pass on the rest of the year just so i don't have to listen to my annoying ute neighbors.

Here's what we'll see this year:



More rushing offense, which will improve the passing game.

Less scrambling and running by Nelson because the running game is so successful

A wiser Nelson who knows he cannot be foolish and take on brutal linebackers, he'll hit the ground more this year before getting hit.

A great receiving corps that will make Nelson look better

Better tight end play, which helps the running and the passing game

Better defense which will put less pressure on the offense...and on Nelson

We will get better field position and more scoring out of our special teams, creating fewer length of field drives. We'll have more drives of 40, 50, 60 yards, instead of 70-80 yard drives.

Oh sure, he had his Riley Nelson moment when he rolled toward the sideline and then in desperation launched a wounded duck back into the middle of the field that just invited itself to be picked off and taken the other way, but by and large the witnesses to his improvement


Does that sound like improvement? The article basically says RN has gotten better but not really.
