What Comes First - poll

If U lived in Provo or SLC or nearby -



The first 7 games of the 2012 season would be right in your back yard and all are interesting in their own way including local frosted cupcake, Weber State - the way it should be. BYU schedulers need to learn from this. The last 5 games should be a good teacher. The interesting game - ND is on another planet - ie almost impossible to throw the family in the car and drive and the others are mostly uninteresting opponents and a drive too long for an uninteresting opponent. Now - if those were trips to Colo Springs or CSU, or Reno or Las Vegas - nice trips.



Anyway - fans will be in Heaven - like Florida fans - never leaving the hood - for 7 games.



But then-bam - 4 out of 5 road games with 1 uninteresting home game in the cold to end the season.



Remember - we need to sell out every game for five years - even that one - we really do - key part of The Bibster Plan for BYU to recapture the heart and soul of football fans in the state of Utah.



Buy your tickets now. Sell the home games out early. Wear blue. Travel with the team. Bumper stickers, window stickers, flags, license plate frames, license plates, spare tire covers, trailer hitch covers, BYU stadium blankets, blue padded seats, Blue Jello and Blue frosted cupcakes.



What other ideas and traditions do ELITE Cougar Fans have? Blue and White frosted donuts or Cougar Tail.

And how about some organizers for out-of-state caravans to LES - So Cal via Las Vegas, No Cal via Reno, I80 Corridor through Wyoming, Highway 40 from Denver, Montana via Boise via I15 South.



We need team leaders for these caravans -



Tail Gate organizers. Restaurant and hotel signs.



What I am asking is This:



What Comes First - Elite Fans or Elite Teams - eggs or chickens if U are a U fan

I went with Blue and White hard boiled eggs. Ute fans went with Red Chickens in 2014/2015.



Let's rally some School Spirit. On a budget - Car pool. Open your homes or back yards to fans who cannot afford a hotel and do not have relatives in Utah. Go camping in Utah.



Blue and White autumn leaves.



Have a tail gate party in every FRONT yard near the stadium.

For me it breaks down like this:



Assumptions:

BYU can hire coaches if it wants to cough up money. Likewise, it could expand stadiums, erect new scoreboards, and bake longer cougar tails. Nobody could stop them.



But what comes first - elite teams or elite recruits. How do you get to be a consistently elite team without a ton of elite recruits every year?



If you buy that chicken and egg anslysis -



Then how do you get the elite recruits? We can't wave the Honor Code and can only bend academic standards so far - so from that narrowed pool and given the social constraints that might be perceived to exist by African American athletes that hear that criticism from competing programs - from that further reduced pool -



How do you get the stud considering USC, Oregon, Stanford, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and ND to choose BYU?



Shall we tell that recruit to come, hold. Presser, recruit five friends, come play, and if all six deliver, then we will start wearing blue and showing some school spirit?



Anyway - IMHO - that approach has not been working.



Maybe if that recruit saw a community on fire about BYU Football - maybe we land a few more of those recruits - then go from there.



Just Sayin - if potential recruits saw a fervor like no other - maybe we get some converts.



Maybe WE should load LES with 65,000 in Missionary attire or something unique, different - overwhelming. Maybe show up early. Leave late.

Now you might ask Elite Team vs Elite money, but Elite teams come with Elite Athletes, Elite coaches, and Elite money. But, usually with all that you have of get Elite fans. BSU will never have Elite fans, notwithstanding their team has been playing pretty close to Elite football.

Let me be more precise--I think you are offering a false dichotomy with another strained metaphor in trying to use the chicken-egg analogy.



I don't think either has to come first. I would hope that both would develop in tandem.

Agree. They schedule themselves right out of being elite. And yet - they still have elite status 2nd to none. BCS Access. TV money. Getting team's like BYU to come twice for 1 in return. Highly ranked recruiting classes every year. And elite money.



Elite fans bring elite money in donations and in tv contracts. Elite players live for game day experiences, tv exposure, big stadiums, and they like to win and believe they have a shot at championships. It is my opinion that elite fan bases cannot be denied.
