BYU beats Utah.

In that case, this game should be a piece of cake for BYU. Right? Doesn't Kyle remember that his team could have consistently beat most pac 12 teams for the past 10 years??? What exactly has changed about your team that makes them more "pac-12"?



Of course Kyle is saying this because he's getting as much mileage out of his new conference affiliation as he can. Anyone else tired of utah's mentioning conference affiliation? Just one thing utah fans, how's that working out for your basketball team?

So the U looks like Wazzou of Colorado now? Sweet.

Being in their new conference is great for Utah basketball, because the PAC is horrendous right now, just downright awful. I did hear, however, that after they're forced to retire their "Ute" name, the new mascot will be a PAC-12 logo with arms and legs.

The :utard: basketball team wasn't doing that well in the MWC...maybe they will have a better chance in the PAC.

He's got the drug using players down.

We can mock it all we want, but take a drive or a walk around SLC. The Ute fans are engaged. I consistently saw THIS:



U painted on sidewalk in front of the address number of many private residences.

U signs on a stake in the ground in front yards.

U PAC 12 banners hanging from SLC street light poles for many consecutive blocks down town.

U shirts and hats and license plate frames and license plates and stickers, etc.

It is all over the place.

I was buying missionary stuff for my son at Target on about 3rd west in SLC - not on the EAST Bench - I noticed two solid aisles of U clothing and gear. I asked where the BYU aisle was. I was told that they normally do not stock it at all but occasionally get a little bit. None right now. I asked if I had to go to Provo to get it. Another employee snickered and gave a shhhhh kind of hand signal and said, "be careful - don't say that out loud".



I know - it was SLC. But get real. SLC is huge. Provo is not. And Provo does not seem to be hanging BYU Independendent banners from city light poles and blue stuff is scarcely seen off campus.



Don't shoot the messenger. I posted about this before. U has taken the momentum. Local BYU fans, especially in SLC need to fight back. SLC can't hang BYU banners - because BYU is not in SLC, but alumni, and we know there are alumni in SLC, could pop a Blue Y next to their address number on the curb, pop a Y on a stick in the yard, get a BYU license plate frame, or wear blue, or trailer hitch cover, or bumper or window sticker, or flags. They really could.



They could go to Target and order BYU stuff and buy it so fast Target can barely keep it on the shelves. They really could. If they were not apathetic.



I am not talking about BYU fans that spend several hours a week on fan boards. I am talking about the ones that do not.



We know BYU has more fans than U - probably even in SLC. They need to come out of the closet and reclaim the heart and soul of the state.

Love it. I'm not sure that Utah added any new fans in the last 2 years but there sure are a lot of Pac12 fans out there now. We should all get bumper stickers that say "Independent" with no mention of BYU and slap them all over the place.



Bib I agree with the appearance that there is more Utah stuff out there (in salt lake it’s not even close) but I used to live on 19th South where everything was Utah. Now I'm on 14000 south and I can't think of a license plate, banner, or game day flag in the neighborhood that's not the Y. They do beat us on the curb paint though.



I liked the rant about the "red" license plates a while back. You weren't here at the time but the orange/red license plates with "Life Elevated" on them actually made all the Ute liberals mad when they came out as they interpreted the slogan (it used to be "still the right place" or something) as being a blur of church and state. Anytime we can get them upset over nothing I'm all for it.

Good points Bibster, but I live in Oregon, and I see BYU gear & license plates 5 to one over U gear. The big thing here is all the Duck gear.

I spent the month of July in Portland. Couldn't believe all the O's that I saw (both Oregon and Obama). At least Oregon doesn't use their conference as a selling point. I didn't see one pac-12 sticker/banner/bumper sticker the entire time I was in Portland, despite seeing plenty of UW/Oregon/Oregon state/WSU garb. There's probably not another school out there that has committed themselves so fully to integrating their brand to the brand of their conference as utah has.

Yesterday at the Pool (Eastern OR) I had my BYU gear and someone came in dressed in Utah gear. It really shocked me. You never see theirs out here.

Quoting myself here because I have to be honest. Saw a billboard here in philadelphia that had something like "Philadelphia's only BCS team, BIG EAST!!". Something like that. Maybe Utah isn't the only ones doing it.

Utah got lucky. Caught lightening in a bottle. They and PAC probably have consulted with each other about how PAC can own this market. Oregon does not need to do this. O and OSU are both PAC. W and WSU. A and ASU. Stanford and Cal. USC and UCLA. The PAC already owns those markets. In Utah, much moreso than in Colorado, there is a battle to be won. Ironically my wife is watching Freaky Friday as I type - about Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan trading places.



That is the War for the heart and soul of Utah - especially SLC market. It is about SWITCHING PLACES. Little brother fighting, with PAC help, to replace Independent Big Brother while the fan base politely sits and watches it happen.
