Could you imagine this possibility?

Three men: Andy Reid, Ty Detmer, and Ben Cahoon. All three have expressed desire, and in some cases STRONG desire to come coach at BYU. Think about all three on the offensive staff. Amazing.

Alright Mcgregor I will bite... Any chance that ANY of these three end up here? I know there is another thread about changes... I would love to see all three but I doubt that is probable..

Could Andy Reid be brought to BYU in any other position than Head Coach? Doesn't seem like he would take a demotion, you know.

That is the dream team though.


Even coming in as a head coach would be a demotion for Andy Reid. I think it comes down to if he wants to take on an less intense position in order to create a better environment for his troubled children.

Andy Reid as OL coach? We'd never give up another sack.

So if Detmer is QB coach, what do you do with Domon? Not saying that Detmer wouldn't be better, but BYU wouldn't just kick Domon to the curb. Bronco never would.

Two predictions for Brandon Doman.

1) He will be our offensive coordinator by the 2012 season.

2) He will be our head coach by the 2020 season.

Has Andy Reid really expressed interest in coaching at BYU? I'd never heard that. I know a lof of fans have said we should go after him, but I"ve never heard interest from his side.

As for bringing on Detmer...how do we know he'd be a good coach/OC? No doubt he was a fantastic player, but that doesn't necessarily translate into being a good coach. Sure, any QB would benefit from having him as a mentor, much like Hornacek as a shooting specialist with the Jazz. But I wonder if he has the personality to be a very effective coach beyond working with the QBs. (I'm not saying he wouldn't...I'm just asking. Does anyone know?)

Obviously Reid would be a completely proven commodity. No reason to doubt or question what he could bring to the table. :)

The reason Detmer translates into an effective coach is that he was ultimately a QB coach in the NFL for 14 years. Most of the teams he was on didn't really have him there to be the man, but rather to be the mentor to their younger QBs.

I completely agree.



In the near future Anae will get enticed to a bigger paycheck and Doman will be promoted to OC. Then we can bring in Detmer as QB coach and co-offensive coordinator.

First of all, to those that question whether any of these guys would come to BYU, there's really no question. Some would prefer certain conditions to be in place, but each is interested in returning, and EACH would consider it a Labor of Love. That means they would be coming to fulfill their desire to coach (an internal passion), and come without the pride (because none are looking to advance a coaching career).



My dream scenario would therefore include these 3 brethren coming in to not only improve the team, but mentor a newly-promoted OC Doman, who is in turn being groomed for the HC position.



I only wish there was similar talent on the other side of the ball wanting to come coach here.

It seems to me that 14 years of experience as a QB coach at the NFL level would qualify Detmer to be an offensive coordinator in the NCAA. Plus he's the son of a Texas HS football coach, so coaching should be nothing new to him. As much as I like Doman (and Anae), if Detmer had the availability and desire to be OC, I'd take him over anyone else in a heartbeat. I'm actually a little worried that the longer BYU waits to arrange anything, the more likely someone else will dangle an offer in front of Detmer and he'll be gone forever--or at least the near future.



I image that if anything happens to Reid in Philly, he'll have plenty of other options available for him in the NFL.



While we're dreaming, what are the chances that BYU can get someone with BYU ties like Mike Holmgren or Brian Billick to do some consulting with Anae and Hill. The thought of BYU playing defense with Ravens-like tenacity is beautiful... as long as we could do it without fielding criminals!

I have heard Bronco say that the defensive staff has spent a lot of time consulting with the Steelers. Apparently they are growing quite a positive relationship with them.

Who's to say that Doman will stick around. Wasn't he talking with some people at Washington about a possible job up there last year? I mean if something bigger opens up for Doman at a smaller school for starters to where he could be OC I think there's a pretty good possibility he would take it, however if the spot at BYU opened up first I guarantee he would prefer that and take it.

That's a good question, he left the NFL for BYU and that was something, but I think most of us just take him being around as a given...
