Also check this one out. The BYU-Utah rivalry is mentioned as well early on but here is another excerpt that will have a bearing on the BYU-Utah series (as well as scheduling potential B1G games).


This is a big disappointment for the Big Ten, which generated a lot of excitement with the announcement. It's no secret why several Big Ten teams -- Michigan State, Michigan, Northwestern -- began scheduling Pac-12 teams in advance of the 2017 start date, to generate some buildup for the agreement. If these contracts are signed, expect them to be honored. If they're not, don't be surprised to see Big Ten teams look elsewhere. To a degree, the Big Ten athletic directors have been frozen in their scheduling initiatives by the Pac-12 agreement. Now they could look to shake things up.

I would love to see Michigan tell the Yewts to stick and then have them come crawling back.

Wouldn't that mean Michigan is afraid to play Utah?



It couldn't mean anything else when one team breaks an "agreement", could it?

I don't think it means Utah is afraid to play BYU. I think utah is trying to take over the state of utah at the expense of BYU and hurting BYU's scheduling however they can, because we're vulnerable and the SLC market is up for grabs..(However this p12-B10 agreement falling apart puts a big dent in my theory)



Nothing like telling your rivals that you can't afford to play difficult out of conference games and cancelling the rivalry for (at least) two years and then scheduling Michigan. nice. Easy, quick-win Michigan.

I probably should've put a little winky cougar on my last post.



Scheduling Michigan didn't surprise me. I'm on record as saying I thought a lot of the refusal to commit was that I thought the PAC/BIG scheduling would start to happen prior to 2017.



I acknowledge that Utah could fit BYU into any schedule (including '14 and '15) for the forseeable future. I don't know why they haven't.



Personally, I a little ambivalent about it. If Utah schedules BYU, great! if they don't I'm OK with that too.



It just doesn't stir me up like it used to. That might be PAC-induced but it's probably more about me aging and not being so emotional about it.



Although I would trade 54-10 for a win over ASU, UW, SC, Cal, or CU without hesitation. That is probably more what it is for me. The game just isn't as important as the other 9 on the schedule.

While I don't like not playing the U for state bragging rights, I love the SOS for 2013-2014 - we are looking good and will be looked upon very favorably should we perform well.



2013:

Home games - Texas, Boise State, Utah and Georgia Tech.

Away games - Utah State, Houston, Hawaii, Washington State, including November visit to Notre Dame.



2014: still in the works,

Future series against Nebraska, Texas, West Virginia, UCF, and Southern Miss.

Long term deals with Boise State, Notre Dame, Utah State, and Hawaii.

Both schools would be just fine without the other. Utah has a great PAC schedule, and BYU can schedule easily to replace Utah in September.



Fact is though, that both schools are better off with each other on schedule. There is a definite synergy in place between BYU-Utah, and both fanbases get up for this 1 game more than for any other. You can kid yourselves all you want, but it is true. Both schools will have big games, Utah plays USC, BYU& plays ND, but while those games are big, neither of those bring hte passion from both sides of hte ball and both fanbases like BYU-Utah does. Not even close.

Maybe this announcement will lead to TH finalizing some contracts and announcing the 2013 schedule and other news.

Bottom line, if the Yewts wanted to continue the rivalry (as they should), it could be done. They have 3 non-conference games a year. 2 empty spots even after the Big Ten game. Nobody is making them play a DII team. And even if they do, why should any other team take precedent above their arch rival? They just don't want to play us. And the "tough conference schedule" doesn't hold much water because it's not like every PAC-12 team is a powerhouse.

True and True. The red chickens are scared of losing, period. The game is there to be played, and they don't want to play it because they don't want to lose because they don't want to finish the season bowl ineligible. Period. Crazy Doc Hill said as much.

Their actually is a dance called the Utah Chicken. My cousin does it better than my rendition. It's origins have nothing to do with U - but it could be adapted.



If BYU cheerleaders or dance team or players will not do it - I suggest every true blue BYU fan don red dyed chicken feathers - go to The Rice Paddy - and put Left Thumb to top of head with fingers forming a rooster comb - and right thumb to their butt crack with fingers forming a Rooster Tail - and bend over - swinging and swaying and making balk balk balk balk chicken noises - every time the music plays or BYU scores or stops U.



The Utah Chickens - has a ring to it - more politically correct than Utes - and they can keep their red feathers
