BYU-Utah ink 2-year deal

2013 in Provo, 2016 in SLC. Utah taking the 2014-15 years off to accommodate the Michigan series.

I will bump back up to four tickets even though one son will be on a mish and my wife does not like football or the state of Utah - even though she grew up a Skyline brat. Maybe I can get her interested in Doman and Dupaix. And I will want an extra ticket anyway for my Ute buddy. He gets me a ticket when the game is in SLC.

After Michigan kicks their asterisks twice in a row - they may decide BYU is a better deal for them. But I do not know. If this is about money - a 105K seat stadium or whatever it is in Ann Arbor plus Big 10 TV values - may make this better for the purse. U needs to figure out how to monetize the rivalry given their relatively small stadium and given LES at 65K and PAC late season ban ruling out a Turkey Bowl game.



And if U goes undefeated with PAC and UM schedule - they make playoffs for sure. But hey - we got a bone here. And the door remains open given that they made 2016 work.





Re Epic 2013 home schedule - yeah but..........

Too bad we be rebuilding our defense and praying that we have a QB and praying that the Bibster is right about Hoff and KVN not going NFL a year early.

Given that Michigan currently has the #1 recruiting class for 2013 and a HC who I think is finally the one to bring Michigan back to the top, I think Utah gets drilled twice. Michigan/OSU games are going to be epic while Hoke and Meyer are the head coaches.



As far as 2013, I am petrified of how BYU is going to look. It could get really scary.



As far as BYU/Utah going away for a couple of years, I'm not sure how I feel...

I say we buy out of the contract in 2014 and say, sorry, we found another game we'd rather do.

Boise State just announced that their 2013 game at BYU has been moved to September 21. This is the same date as reported for the BYU-Utah game at LES next year. What gives?

U game reported as 4th week of the season by Hill according to Cougar Blue.



That is a bit vague. It could mean 9-28. But given that some play the last day or so of August and BYU frequently plays Sep 3 or so - it could mean 9-21.



I imagine exact date will be announced imminently.

This is page one. Second sentence says "Utes will play BYU on September 21, 2013..."

"Earlier today, we confirmed that Boise State was in fact set to travel to BYU on September 21, 2013. But football schedules are fluid and there’s always the possibility that the Boise State-BYU game could be on the move once more."

Well that schedule has 9 good games with 3 left to be announced. Hopefully with this announcement, the rest will be coming shortly.

Looking at that schedule, I am reminded of how everything was 2 years ago right now talking about 2013 being Heaps', Apo, etc. Senior year. We have the schedule for it, will we have the players?

Utah was successful in removing BYU from their schedule so they could play weaker schools like Michigan. Their pac-12 schedule was SO rigorous that they felt the need to water things down a bit.



So why not just do the 2013 game? I suspect that we needed the game in 2013 and Utah said no unless there was a return trip far into the future. I would have preferred no 2016 game and called it quits after 2013. i think that was BYU's concession to get Utah's 2013 game.



I really like the idea of cancelling the 2016 game after we play them in 2013 -- why not cancel and announce an away game with Michigan on the same day? So Utah admin is officially treating our school like crap -- what are the repercussions? have we pulled basketball games or any other deals with them? What do fans have to do to get all BYU games in any sport pulled from Utah's schedule?

Cancelling the 2016 game is a knee-jerk and childish reaction. Do we want the rivalry to continue? Of course. But is anyone really surprised by this? Utah is going to do what they will do. No reason for any of us to stoop to their level. I say that we enjoy the rivalry game this year and next and beat the snot out of the Ewetes. We will have plenty of exciting games in 2014, 2015 and beyond, whether Utah is part of our schedule or not.



I actually think the Ewetes have some tough games on their future schedules. Oregon, Stanford, USC, Michigan. Good on 'em! Let's start to focus on BYU's tough and exciting games on our future schedules: Notre Dame, Boise State, Texas, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Nebraska, and hopefully Wisconsin and Miami, among many others.



And let's stop dwelling on everything the Ewetes are doing and focus on making independence successful. It really can and should be a great experience. The 9 teams on our 2013 schedule, with home games against Texas, Utah, Boise State, and Georgia Tech are great. It doesn't really matter who else we play...the schedule will likely be the best ever. 2014 and 2015 are shaping up well, especially if the Wisconsin rumors are true. Let's enjoy it!
