Jimmer on Summer League; Isaiah out

So, looks like Jimmer will be running the point for the Kings summer league while Isaiah chums it up with the starters in Vegas.



I have mixed feelings about this. While I see Jimmer needs more experience running point at the NBA level, I don't see how this helps him gel with the starters. Looks to me like the Kings have picked their horse and the cards are stacked against Jimmer. Unless he dominates in summer league particularly in the assist category it could be a long road for Jimmer next season.

Coach "Smart" is an idiot and an ass. His team is terrible and will continue to be terrible, regardless of the players, athletes, talent, etc. he has on the team. The Kings are going nowhere fast (except, perhaps, a new city), and I hope Jimmer gets traded ASAP to somewhere like Indiana that actually understands the word "team."

Jimmer better see it that way too. Feeling slighted isn't going to help his time at Sacramento or in the NBA.

It could motivate him to work even harder to prove people wrong, again, and propel him to superstardom in the NBA.

What a minute.... I didn't think that Fredette was competing with Isaiah for pg minutes? :skeptic: I thought he was a 2 guard learning a new position last season?



I never bought that, when I watched he was playing as much pg as anyone on the team. From Cousins on down (that whole team thinks they can play every position). I will say this, Isaiah earned his starting spot. He had an incredible rookie year. I think the best thing for Jimmer at this point would be to to get the heck out of Sac-town before the team is transferred to a new town.

I have said it a million times. Isaiah had a good season, yes, but Jimmers numbers are as good or better when extrapolated over the same amount of time. It wouldn't have mattered

if Smart had picked Jimmer or Thomas, he would have gotten the same results.



Smart went "all Jerry Sloan" on Jimmer, benching him simply because the fan base wanted to see him play, and he wanted to show that it was his team. It was stupid coaching, and they lost a LOT as a result. (The only reason Sloan could pull crap like that with rookies, is that he had Stockton and Malone that brought in 40+ wins a season all by themselves.)



Smart won't make it through next season. They'll start 11-20, and he'll be on the hot seat, Cousins will fly off the handle, and he'll lose the team. Mark it down. He might make it all the way to the offseason, after another terrible showing, but that will be it. He will be out after a 25 and 57 season.

I disagree a little. I watched as many Kings games as I could stand to watch. Jimmer didn't have the confidence he needed to be effective the NBA in every game. Jimmer struggled to get into the paint to score or pass. Jimmer was trying so hard to play D and fit in. Jimmer needs to be more like Jason Terry and start jacking the ball up when he has a shot. Thomas on the other hand was getting into the paint and making plays and full of confidence.



I think Jimmer's season could have gone very differently but Jimmer isn't good enough to be spoon fed confidence and minutes. He needs to find the confidence within himself. Hopefully, summer league will help him find his niche in the NBA.

Isaiah had nothing to lose and everything to prove going into the season. He was something like a 4th round draft pick. No expectations. If he warmed the bench no one would have thought less of him. No fan demand. No hype to live up to. Just play ball. If he did something good, it was a pleasant surprise.



Jimmer on the other hand came in with a mountain of expectations, plus a whole lot to prove. NCAA national player of the year. 1st round draft pick. Can he play defense? Can he run the point at the NBA? Huge fan expectations. If Jimmer did something good it was to expected from a 1st round pick. To turn heads he had to be exceptional. And given the short off season, limited practices with the team, new coach, and simply just adjusting to the NBA it was a lot to live up to. Throw in the fact he's surrounded by crappy teammates on a crappy team and it's no surprise he lost the title of "Golden Boy."



Jimmer is a fighter. He'll bounce back whether it's on the Kings or somewhere else.

Um Jimmer did play D and the rest of the team was just horrible. There is a reason they were the worst defensive team in the league last season. Can you really blame Jimmer for this when he got bench minutes?



If Jimmer shores up his pick and roll D he will do fine--this is his biggest weakness by far. 1 v 1 he was as good as anyone imo. Nobody ever just beat him straight up off the dribble...yes I watched pretty much every game last year.

Me too. His defense was great. He just needs to learn how to come off of picks and/or sell the foul for the moving screens set against him.



He didn't have a chance. There were MULTIPLE games that Jimmer would play the entire second quarter, shooting like 6 for 8 and dishing 3 assists to pull his team from down 13 to down 3 at the half - and instead of playing the hot hand, "Smart" would bench Jimmer until 3 mins to go in the 3rd, when they were behind by 13 again.



Smart is a terrible coach. He will be out of head coaching in a year. That team has a lot of talent, and they had one of the worst records in the NBA.

These comments are both very accurate, IMO. Isaiah is good but has been given a very long leash, Jimmer could be better but has played very well at times in limited minutes, Smart is a terrible coach who will be fired soon, and the Kings play no defense and do not dish out assists.
