Utah Preview

DwightA healthy Wynn is good news for Utah. Having said that, how good is he really? He had a good 2nd half against a worn out BYU deffense that was falling apart in last years game. He has had some good games against inferior teams, but is he really as good as Ute fans hope he is?
It sounds like this will be a very defensive game. Hopefully Nelson will prove to be an effective passer. He should have at least three productive recievers to make the task possible. A good TE would be a bonus.
Any word on how Pritchard's ankle has recovered? If he is healthy, that will bode better for our running game, and also give Nelson one more target out of the back field.

Pritchard sounded like he was on track to be healed up by fall. Hopefully the long winter and non-weight bearing didn't take a toll on his body.

my thoughts exactly. Utah is a good team with mediocre QB play. If given enough time, he'll hurt you, just like any other mediocre QB. I hope Bronco learned this last year. Put pressure on him and he'll fold.

I am not sure we really even know how good he is. Streaky and injury prone but another year of experience. He is at least as injury prone as Riley Nelson. And like BYU, Utah does not have much experience behind him. They do have more backup experience than BYU - but nothing scary.
We do need to pressure Wynn.

GuestUtah has a mediocre QB and a guy with completely zero experience at offensive coordinator, they guy has never even experienced football at any institution other than Utah. Add in losing a couple tackles and I think they will be struggling offensively.

MTMIMO this season, like 2011, will be mostly about Jordan Wynn staying healthy. John White ran for 1500 yards last year with zero passing game. If Utah has even a threat of a passing game they will be good enough offensively.
Brian Johnson will be fine. Iâm sure there will be some âwhat the he** was that?â moments but donât you have that with any OC? ARodâs first year as OC Utah was top 25 in the country in scoring offense and theyâve got more weapons than they had on that team. Utah is very good (and deep) at the skill positions.
Filling the Tackle spots is important but theyâre not as thin on the OL as they were last year. They have guys who can play OT. And, having to replace a guy doesnât mean itâs going to be a downgrade. John White>Matt Asiata and Eddie Wide.

DwightUtah will have a solid defense. I know that the BYU offense expectations are not out of this world. However, despite special teams mistakes and turnovers against TCU, this offense was able to move the ball against a Gary Patterson Defense. That was something that Max Hall was not able to do. I suspect that Nelson will have a more balanced passing game and utilize Apo, Falslev and possibly a TE a bit more than last year. Maybe they will script in some effective option plays. The real advantage is that Nelson does not tend to play with reservation or fear. If Doman can keep him from fumbling or throwing into triple coverage, then I like our odds.

Last years TCU defense was more like a good SDSU or Air Force defense.
