Another Asterisk?

Did College Football News just put another metaphorical asterisk on the BYU schedule? If so, is the asterisk on the 10 wins in 2011 that they indicated were over-inflated due to the weak schedule post Utah other than TCU - a loss?



Or did they actually put the proverbial asterisk on the 2012 schedule by stating that 10 wins would indicate a successful season and actually mean something and that 11 wins would be BCS worthy - because of the schedule?



I think the asterisk is on the 2012 schedule since it is the BYU schedule that is a break away from the previous norm.



2013 may get two asterisks.

I think they have been reading CC and know about the Church of the Undefeated Season, which makes anything less than 13 wins a disappointment, but that would not make good print, so they said 10 wins would be successful even though they know it is 13 or bust.

Interestingly - they indicated that we have 2 All-American candidates at OL. Both are named Braden. Most reviewers believe BYU will have an improved OL even though we lost 2 borderline NFL guys.

I think BYU typically does play a weak schedule.* That doesn't mean I think they should have an asterisk by it.



Asterisks are meant for out of the ordinary circumstances or to denote some sort of taint on the record.* Playing a weak schedule is neither. Plenty of teams play a weak schedule.*



I don't intend to start posting like this.*

* I don't think BYU has any "earned" any football asterisks.

* Oregon had a "weak" schedule last year. They played an FCS team and played eight other teams that lost 6 or more games, including five teams that lost eight or more.

BYU can only play who will schedule them. PRetty simple really.

Totally agree - and I am actually one of the minority of BYU fans on this site that thinks the schedule has been plenty difficult and 2012 and 2013 may be too difficult as was 2011.



BYU has given too much advantage to opponents trying to strengthen a schedule that does not need strengthening until BYU starts dominating it like BSU and TCu did.



But if one of the BCS teams nearby wants to tee it up home and away - bring it on.

Net effect, through no fault of our own,



The spirit is willing but the opponents are usually weak or given home field advantage when not.



And - I think the schedules historically were tough enough based on results and have gotten too tough lately.

My idea of Asterix (I served a French speaking mission).

HA ha. nothing like the off season to get a bunch of fans on the edge of their seats at the mention of the word "asterisk".



Maybe everyone who is tired of hearing cougarbib2's mention of asterisks should come up with something else to talk about. This has been a slow, long, starvation type of a an off season. Hopefully August and September provide the feast I'm cautiously optimistic about. No news is good news as far as I'm concerned at this point.
