Rumor - Holy War

TH hinted that he is still optimistic about getting something done for 2013 very soon since 2013 is right around the corner. He said CH has never given up on getting it done.



I know U has been trying to get a 1 and done at their place. TH did not mention 2014.



Maybe an un-neutral site or a truly neutral site is in the works.



Las Vegas?

Jerry's World?

Rose Bowl, Coliseum, or Anaheim Stadium or Jack Murphy Stadium?

Colorado - Bronco Stadium, CU????



I would love to see U in a season kickoff classic type game in Texas and then beat them again in The Las Vegas Bowl.



Has anyone heard any rumors as to what TH might have been alluding to - or maybe he is just trying to keep pressure on U for a home and away.

BYU will never give a 1 and done to Utah. There are not even legitimate rumors of Utah ever even talking about such an offer. It won't happen.

I read discussion of U pushing for this a year ago and BYU saying HE Double C K no.



But I could see a 1 game deal on a truly neutral field. I really could. There would be no reason not to do that - it is fair and equal.



I have also started to think this:



The old deal is over. It ended. Home and away was all equal and repaid in full by both sides.



Any future deal is a new deal. BYU should not get hung up about who visits whom first - it does not matter as long as we get 1 Provo game for every SLC game.



And as for neutral fields - I believe Florida plays FSU on a neutral field every year. I could be wrong about that - will check.



But if some large venue wants to take the rivalry annually on a truly neutral field - why not? Really.



Then get 6 home games or more. 5 road games or less. And then U on a neutral field. Every year. Works for me.



Now as to substantiation of any current rumor - this is all Bibster Babble and speculation after reading a D News article quoting TH this morning or last night where he was focused on getting something done for 2013 very soon - weeks to a month from now iirc. No mention of 2014 or beyond.



Just wondered if the truly connected are hearing anything. Clearly they are talking and it us not dead yet.

A neutral site game with Utah in Vegas is dumb--both Holmoe and Hill are smarter than that. A neutral site game anywhere else is even dumber.

I believe the only neutral field sites in the Florida-FSU rivalry have been the few meetings in the Sugar Bowl--otherwise it's a home-home series. You might be thinking of the Florida-Georgia rivalry, which is usually played in Jacksonville. Of course, there are a few examples of neutral field rivalries--



The Red River Shootout (UT-OU) is a neutral field series and seating in the Cotton Bowl is pretty even for both teams. Army-Navy is also neutral field, with Philly being the most common host.



The problem is, unlike Florida-Georgia, UT-OU, and Army-Navy, BYU-Utah doesn't have a convenient NFL-sized venue allowing both teams to benefit from the neutral site. The best I can think of would be San Diego.

It seems the travel costs would be higher for each team. How about playing in SLC but BYU gets to sell 80% of the tickets and we keep the revenue.

I have heard from two sources that 2013-14 will happen, but after that is the big question. Utah is in a bind with the PAC plans to add aBig Ten game and the fact that the BYU series is currently set up poorly for them. Byinthat I mean in years they have 5 PAC roadies theynalsomhave to play in Provo. If that can get reversed, it makes future scheduling easier.



With that in mind, I would not be shocked in BYU agree to accommodate Utah in the next two year deal to make future scheduling for the series easier, or possible. It will have to happen or the series will die off. So I think BYU might agree to play in SLC in 2013, with Utah coming to Provo in 2014. This prevents an off year that many expect, and also gets the series inline with what Utah needs xwith their PAC schedule.



And Media Day might be where we hear it first.



Just a hunch.

And why not? It really does not matter who goes where first as long as it is home and away.



And, I recall sitting in a stadium in California - for a kick-off classic type game - probably Anaheim or The Rose Bowl watching Florida State and BYU. If that kind of neutral site opener can work - a BYU Vs Utah game in San Diego could work too. Maybe Las Vegas too as a kick-off classic - late August game.



Before someone comes back on to tell me how stupid this is again - Think TV Revenue - then you realize Stadium Size isn't everything. Rivalry game between ND West and The Mighty PAC Powered Utes on ESPN Thursday before everyone else kicks off - nice payday.



And PAC has no rule against that.

As long as they don't claim it a home game and put on their stupid tv network.

I think the issue facing BYU right now is that a road game at Utah in 2013 would put us at 6 road games with 3 games still to schedule. The good news is the 3 home games on the schedule right now are Texas, Georgia Tech, and Boise State.



A neutral site game in 2013 followed by a home-and-home series (Provo in 2014, SLC in 2015) could be an excellent out-of-the-box solution. It would get Utah on the right home-and-away schedule with us and the gate and TV revenue from the 2013 game could be shared 50-50. My vote is definitely San Diego for the neutral site game. My second choice would be Mile High Stadium in Denver. Both locations boast good-sized local BYU fan bases and are good destinations for Cougar faithful from Utah and elsewhere.



With a neutral-site classic against Utah, the 2013 schedule could be AWESOME!

9/21 - v. ?? [Gotta get a home game here. My vote is for a home game as the front end of a home-and-home against Big Ten or Big East opponent - Illinois, Wisconsin, and Temple have openings]

10/4 - at Utah State

10/12 - v. Georgia Tech

10/19 - at Houston

10/26 - v. Boise State

11/2 - ?? [BYE]

So, Utah has scheduled Michigan for a home-and-home for 2014 and 2015. 2014 game in Ann Arbor.



Presumably, this means rivalry game is on for 2013 in Provo and 2014 in SLC. Otherwise, KWitt is truly another classless Ute:



"I think the operative word with scheduling with nonconference games is balance," Whittingham said. "The Pac-12 schedule is rigorous. You play nine conference games, which is one more than most conferences play, so that increases the degree of difficulty right there.



"There are so many good teams coming into our stadium now -- USC, Cal, and the list goes on and on -- so having a big-time team come into the stadium in your nonconference setting in not as big of a priority because of the great teams we have coming in on a weekly basis in the Pac-12."



To use the rigorous PAC-12 schedule as the "excuse" to not include BYU and then two weeks later schedule a home-and-home with Michigan shows either Kwitt is a liar, or the BYU-Utah game is still on for 2013 and 2014. We shall see, hopefully by June 27.

This game works for both teams. Utah needed to schedule a "name" team to draw fans to their crappy stadium in two down years where they probably won't make a bowl game, and Michigan needed to schedule 2 wins....



I hope that we don't schedule them. I'd hate to have our scheulde strength lessened by having a 3 win Utah team on it...
