BEAST - Why Stop at 14 Teams

BEAST will continue to get plucked and suffer erosion. They should go to 16 or 18 to ensure that they actually ever reach and stay at 12.

And, quite frankly, unless Army joins, there is really not one bad team in the lot. Plenty of average, ordinary, mediocre teams - not many great teams - probably 2-4 good teams every year and the best ones are in the west.

Farm System. Gateway. A place for programs to grow up and then move up.

I read an article or two - and some of you will boil at this - but SDSU AD was in the limelight and getting all the exposure. He said the new TV deal is driving this and revenue will be well above projections that are out there. When the TV deal is completed - then they will approach or reapproach AFA or BYU with a much stronger proposal than those turned down previously.

Remains to be seen of course. One commenter suggested adding both AFA and BYU out West and ECU back East.

Quite frankly - every conference needs a doormat. Make Army an offer they can't refuse. They could serve a role like Vandy, Duke, Indiana, Iowa State, or in the case of PAC the shared doormat role alternated between Oregon State / WSU / Colorado / U.

But with no really strong teams, this still seems like a pipe dream of somebody's, being hyped by a few almost random sources. It's a train wreck waiting to happen. It's schizophrenic. It's square peg in a round hole. It's "future" thinking as sound as the WAC 16.

It's MUBAR.

I would prefer Independence than the Big East. Didn't our pioneers leave the east to come west for Independence?

Seriously, I don't think the big East offers much that we can't get on our own. The BCS is changing, and the Big East will be left behind.

Correction:

Most of the Big East will get left behind.

Independent ND will not get left behind.

BYU is at risk of getting left behind whether INDY, BEAST, or some other affiliation.

Some ACC is at risk depending on level of consolidation.

If radical reform happens with all conferences dissolving - then Duke, Vandy, Iowa State, Indiana, Baylor, and possibly tens of other schools are in trouble.

But other than Temple - when was the last time a conference dumped a member. Rare stuff.

Who knows where the dust will all settle or when.

Meanwhile - win football games - sell tickets - establish viewership - capture the public's imagination - and create undeniable value.

It would not hurt to create a Med School and add several PHD programs and research programs.

Too bad Huntsman is a Ute. He could fund a Med School and a ton of medical research.

Time for Mariotts to step it up yet another notch - NuSkin -

Maybe Romney could refocus his money.

If Obama fixes the BCS - he may get my vote - Ha!

He hasn't fixed anything else, so I don't expect him to fix the BCS, but that is not a football discussion.

The league begins negotiations in September which should take a little time. This pot could take a little or a lot of time to come to a full boil and if the previous article stating that BEAST will wait until it is signed so it can offer BYU and AFA a stronger package than they turned down last time holds up - lots of speculation and not much action until after this season is over.

And a lot of things could change and ripple down by then.

Of note - schools with all sports - get over $11M. Not shabby. Way better than MWC, C-USA, WAC, MAC, and Sunbelt combined.

BYU must be worth $2-3M per year more than the AVG BEAST team and that is why the FB average payout would increase $2-300K per team with BYU.

Keep building value. And you do that by building the fanbase.

And our ESPN exposure is increasing our value. We are building our brand and I think gaining new fans especially if we can win some big games.

Sure - win some big games. But note that the Consultant pointed out that BSU built value by expanding beyond its own tiny little fanbase by just winning period.

Until very recently, BSU never played anybody. But they kept going undefeated or losing just 1 game.

I know I have been a broken record. We do not need to schedule more big games. We need to beat USU every year. We cannot lose to Nevada. We need to beat U. We need to beat everybody - and even if other fans around the country are whining about us never playing anybody - they too will tune in to the game - even if they are hoping we Lise so their team can jump us or just to justify in their own mind that their team is better.

It is actually viewership that drives the money. Maybe that is why beer companies keep buying ads during BYU games - all the anti BYU folks tuned in need a drink when BYU keeps winning.

Schedule winnable games. Tilt a few things in our favor. Never tilt things in a good opponents favor.

Build Value until a consultant tells PAC and BIG XII that adding BYU will increase the per team payout in their conference. That might make some things happen.

Indy could be great if we do not overschedule.
