Way too early BOLD prediction thread:

Call your shot. What are some BOLD predictions you're willing to make right now?

- Riley will play 13 games this year and finish with more 30 TD passes.

- BYU will win the follow road games: @ Utah, @ Boise and @ Notre Dame.

- BYU will finish 11-1 in the regular season and win their bowl game. It will be there most wins since 2001.

Bold is one way of looking at those predictions. Crazy is another :) :crazy:



My bold prediction is that the byu utah game will come down to the wire and that riley nelson will win it for the team in the last moments.

10 TD grabs by tight ends.

1 rusher reach 1,000 yards in the season

Defense causes 18 turn overs.

18 forced turnovers would be the lowest under Bronco.

What I really meant was 18 interceptions.

Riley throws 15 interceptions on the year and does not start every game this season

Joe Sampson picks 5 passes on the year

Ross Apo lays out a safety blocking and it ends up on sportscenter for a week

Jordan Johnson becomes the best player on defense and eventually plays in the NFL

Uona Kaveinga comes to camp out of shape and overweight and nearly loses his starting job by midseason

Oneill Chambers leaves the team before seasons end

Adam Hine takes one 60+ yards for a TD this season

We do not return a kick or a punt for a TD this season

We lose at Boise State badly and I kick a random dog

KVN leaves a year early for the draft

We hold BSU to their fewest points this year.

We find a TE!

We beat Utah by two scores.

KVN is in Butkus award discussion.

Doman gets better

OL does not under perform

The O-line is the best performing unit of the team this year. Riley gets rid of the ball quickly, sacks go way down, and massive holes open up for RBs.



No rationale to support. Just a hunch they're mad about last year and realize they actualyl have to work or they'll get Reynolded in the draft.

I predict 10-2, with both of our losses on the road. And a bowl game win. I thought I was being bold with that...



Sure would prefer 11-1, though.

Riley throws a total duck that ends up saving a game--wait that wouldnt be such a bold (as in unlikely) event. :-)



Then after starting to garner a place among at least the second tier QB greats, with a win over Utah, he goes down to a season ending injury and by his fourth start, Taysom Hill starts his journey toward being the next great QB at BYU taking byu to the next level.

With a bowl win, BYU finishes the year at 11-2, and ranked #11. Best finish in the Bronco era, and the whiners get off his back for a year.

In spite of our decorum post, some days I almost miss that guy. He was a useful dog to kick around. I'm still looking for my $1 Wolf-dog at LES.

1. A freshman wins the race up the Y.

2. The BigXII expands to its namesake.

3. BYU beats ND and G-Tech.

4. Utah comes down to gutsy play by Riley which could go either way (which way it goes will tell us if he's been living right on and off the field)

5. Utah guns to take Riley out a la the Saints. If he goes out, he goes out in the Utah game.

6. Utah goes .500 in the PAC.

7. We lose to Boise St by 2 TDs in part because of the short week after Utah. Holmoe gets roasted here and by Monson and half of my extended family becomes absolutely insufferable.

8. Our D is ranked top 10, in spite of Boise St.

9. We end up in the top 25. Again. Utah does not. Again.

10. "Coach" Omer "retires".



*BONUS*: Jabari Parker goes to a "K"-school (Kentucky, Kansas, Kansas State, or Kryzezewski), serves a mission, comes home and plays a year for Dave Rose.

The team is 8-0 and November is meaningful again!

While I do think that Riley will make some plays this year to save us some wins, if we get to 10 or 11 wins, I predict it will be mostly the defense's doing. I predict a very stout, physical D this year.

True, it's already plausible to call him legit right now.



But I would say going next year and coming away with a 145PER would be pretty legit, seeing as 135 is the standard.

Here are my two definition of legit next year for Riley:

Definition 1) exceed the average of BYU QBs under Bronco. By this measurement, he should AT LEAST produce the following on-field stats:

~63% completion

~280 yards passing a game

~25 passing TDs

~13 interceptions

~143 PER



Definition 2) meet the standard of BYU's previous senior QBs since LaVell took over BYU. Here is the average of the following senior QB seasons (Sheide '74, Nielsen '76, Wilson '79, McMahon '81, Young '83, Bosco '85, Detmer '91, Sarkisian '96, Feterik '99, Doman '01, Beck '06, Hall '09):

~ 64% completion

~290 yards passing a game

~30 passing TDs

~14 interceptions

~153 PER



I think it would be fair to say that meeting Definition 1 would make him a legit BYU QB for 2012. And that meeting Definition 2 would make him a legit senior BYU QB. I think holding him to either metric would be fair.
