BYU Recruiting Article

I added it to the Josh Morris strand, but thought it would get more traffic here as well. It relates to BYU's overall approach now. Great read.

Interesting that Bronco lobbied to bring in Fresno State, Hawaii, and Boise State. Too bad no one listened. The MWC may have been a much better conference and may have had a chance at survival. Then again, TCU still would have jumped at the Big XII and Utah still would have jumped at the PAC 10, so no real harm done.



It looks like independence is helping recruiting by getting more exposure to solid kids, but it will not draw in the four star and five star non-LDS recruits we would like to have. It is nice to have more to choose from, but we are still going to need coaching to 1) identify underrated talent and 2) coach up that talent to meet/exceed the execution of those four and five star players.

Looking back, I still think the MWC should tried to increase the instability of the Big12 by publicly reaching out to Kansas and Missouri. Instead, they sat back and waited for the dust to settle.

It would have required formation of a new conference to even have a prayer due to the MTN TV contract which had many years left on it. That would have given up the prayer chance MWC had for BCS AQ Status. And if B12 had folded - SEC and ACC and BEAST and PAC and BIG 10 would have feasted on everything but Iowa State and Baylor and BEAST may have even taken those guys.



But Iowa State and Baylor definitely dodged the irrelevancy bullet.
