Phil Fords aunt is an ICU nurse that I know very well. Phil is a giant and at one point in time was considered a huge get for Kansas,



Phil's high school coach was KC Chiefs Hall of Famer, Tim Grunhard, who is now on the Kansas coaching staff so I don't think this is as much of a no brainer as it seems and I think Kansas still has the upper hand but the kid is very good and the program he came from churns out several D1 recruits every year.

Ford's twitter sure has him talking up BYU. Hoping BYU can land him. Said he wants to serve a mission, so that could be the tipping point in BYU's favor.

Bs also wants to be surrounded by those of his faith having been recently baptized a month ago. BYU has a big advantage in this department. Offer him a schollie and the deal is done.

Dupaix took his phone call last night at 1:00 am. BYU is very interested in him, and they are flying out today to meet him to evaluate situation.

If BYU does not offer this kid, it will be a huge mistake. HE is a perfect candidate for BYU. New convert, wants to be here, is basically recruiting BYU to come get him. HE fits Bronco's mold of what a BYU player should be. Grades would be only issue, however, if he qualifies academically, BYU should offer and give him the chance to make it in Provo. Plus, he wants to serve a mission.



Sign him, send him on a mission, then bring him back and play him.

By the time he plays he may look like a Ford Monster Truck - and nothing drives like a Ford.

Really? I mean can you really get any more straight-forward than, “BYU sounds like the perfect school for me...now that I’m a member of the church, I want to go there and play football for them MORE THAN ANYTHING...it’s really the only school I want to play for right now...”? Not to mention the dude's twitter. Maybe I'll eat my words...but I'd say it looks like a no brainer - unless he's just a bold faced liar...

I hope you're right but there are still a lot of variables here including Phils father who has KU ties and his former coach who is a legend in Kansas City and now coaches at KU. I am excited but am not ready to say this is in the bag.

Just the sheer momentum and enthusiasm for recruiting and for BYU is worth a scholarship. His desire to be LDS and thus want to be at BYU hell or high water is quite the message to all other LDS athletes, and opposing college coaches that wonder if they should bother going after them.



Phil is going to get much much more national and local press which = BYU getting more national and local press. It doesn't hurt that had he not been considered a lock for Kansas as early as his soph year, he would have been offered by every Big 12 team. (though I think academics scared a few too... not Kansas, as their academic requirements are almost as sad as those of the U of U and Boise State... and their on the field football play has been much much worse)



Phil will be showered with affection by BYU fans for his story and for his talent. It's certainly a feel good story worth it's weight in gold.



Get this kid a schollie offer and ride the momentum all recruiting season.



This sends a message to guys like Brayden Kearsley (who is considered possibly the best lineman in the country for his class and had reportedly waffled a little) that BYU is the place for all LDS athletes AND that the Oline is going to be awesome.



It doesn't hurt that BYU just got a commitment from the best athlete to come to BYU since Ross Apo in Shumway.

Doman and Weber are going to visit him this Wednesday and hopefully lock him up if he pans out and can meet the academic requirements.

I bet he signs a LOI with BYU Wednesday. But I also think he might stay 1 more year in JC, or at least fall semester, but redshirt. Then head to BYU with 3 to play 3 in 2013.

BG is reporting that Weber met with him today and told him to keep his grades up and his weight down. Doesn't sound like a schollie was offered or that he may have to meet certain requirements-prove himself in order to qualify - most likely a wait and see issue.
