BYU offered this very large Idaho lineman a full-ride scholarship during a meeting with Coach Mendenhall. He was very excited and committed on the spot to be a Cougar. This is another great addition to the OL. We now have Ryker Matthews, Braydon Kearsley and Mr. Peoples - future OL is looking very bright.

Get a kick out of his 50% LDS statement. He is a steal for a recruit - went unnoticed being from Rigby, ID (although it is kind of hard to miss 6-6/300).

According to B. Gurney, our stud OL recruit Kearsley had this to say about JonRyheem:



“That Peoples kid (Jonryheem Peoples) was the guy who really impressed me...He was dominating guys on both sides of the ball. I wanted to go against him so bad, but now that he’s committed to BYU, I’ll get plenty of chances.”

B. Gurney reporting that UT and USU offered him after the Poly Camp and that he has a visit scheduled with UT on Monday and USU on Tuesday. Thought Bronco didn't want kids visiting other schools after making a verbal commitment.

B. Gurney indicated this kid had the shortest decommit time in the last 10 years of coverage. Makes you wonder why he gave his word to the Cougs - his big Ute fan mom may have had a significant influence in the decision-making process. Looking forward to some epic battles between Kearsley and Peoples in the future.

Gurney says Peoples is denying the report that he committed to Utah.

Heard that he is tweeting his friends that he is going to BYU.

Wants to be at the best program (BYU), not just a good program (Utah).

"Mendenhall went through Peoples’ goals with him and asked which program he felt would best help him achieve his goals. After some thought, Peoples determined that BYU would provide the best fit."



Whew! Good to see epic battles between Kearsley and Peoples will be on the practice field where they will both make each other better.

Good to hear his side of the story on his recruitment, preparation and desire to play for BYU.

Interesting that he can also serve as a kicker on special teams - maybe he can be the next coming of Matt Payne, BYU's punter and place kicker, who was known for laying big hits on return specialists.

Will bring his brother Tristin Cano (6-4/240 So.) - hope we can land him as well if he is as good as his older brother.

Likes the pace of the practice - says there is lots of speed and players truly improve their speed and endurance with the way they practice. Sounds like his bit, younger brother is looking at the Y as a landing spot as well.

This kid is really an outstanding athlete - has quick feet, good mobility and also plays basketball.

Maybe he and Kafusi will play for Rose in off-season and bring in some beef.

He runs a 4.9/40, and also plays basketball, track. Has good foot speed and strength and is versatile enough to play either DE/NT. I expect him to contribute right away similar to how freshmen Manumaleuna, Kafusi and Fuga played in their first year.

Defensively BYU is coming off a pretty remarkable year, which saw the Cougars produce a top-five defense nationally, as well as a top-five draft pick from the defensive line. Seeing that helped solidify Peoples’ commitment to BYU.



“Oh it was totally huge,” he said. “You’ve got schools like Utah saying BYU can’t send people to the NFL. Well, look at this year! They produced a first-round pick after only coaching him for [three] years. So I mean, if you’re good enough to go, then you’re good enough to go. With BYU, it just shows how good of a coach Coach Kaufusi is. He had him for two years and turned him into a first-round pick and now he’s making millions. It just shows what you can do in this system. If you pay attention to detail then obviously it works. That’s my goal is to go to the next level and play in the NFL, and it has been since I was little. I wrote it on my wall, and I have faith that the coaching staff at BYU can help me get there. They produced a top-three defense in the nation last year ranking right up there with Alabama and LSU and all of these
