BYU Gets CSU Transfer -Safety Drew Reilly

Doesn't look like he's taking a scholarship as mentioned on some other blogs but I haven't been able to confirm that.

I see there were two Reillys from Valley Center High School to CSU in 2011. The other, Beau, is a QB. Could they be brothers, and if so, could we be seing another transfer soon?

I don't know if there is a third Reilly brother. But the one at Utah is pretty good.

Good article. I like how the CSU coach was a total class act and granted a release free and clear. Coach Chow could learn alot about how to be a decent human being from Coach McElwain.


Yep. My understanding is that BYU and Utah also allow players to transfer unrestricted. It's because Kyle and Bronco aren't complete morons. They understand very well that pulling that kind of stunt will alway come back to bite you and it makes you look petty and small.



What Chow doesn't get is this is going to cause any Hawaii recruit to hesitate a little if there is even the slightest possibility they might want to transfer to BYU. The same for USU. It's ridiculous that they can't see this but it will likely work in our favor in the future.

I just want to know if the kid can play. And can he run. I love his size for safety, or even as an OLB if he bulks up. BYU has little trouble getting the LBs though, so hoping he has the speed to play safety, because I like his size. Sounds like someone to play the run stopper in secondary when Bills plays cover safety.



Secondary is my #1 concern for BYU recruiting, with WR #2. Corner is the toughest spot to recruit for BYU historically, but am always glad when can add a good safety as well.

Reilly's comments also reveal that BYU offered more than just the opportunity to play football in a competitive environment but the moral atmosphere that complimented his experience in the mission field and desire to have a supporting lifestyle that mirrored his beliefs. Sounds familiar to many of us and also explains the type of recruit that will seek out and join the program. It is why we can't get every top rated player but generally get the ones who really want to be here for all of the reasons previously mentioned (i.e. The BYU experience).

What Chow doesn't get is ....

After time after time of looking small and petty, how long does it take before one is recognized as small and petty rather than just looking like it.

This kid is a quitter. He'll never make it at BYU. Unless he has talent and ability, then he can be labeled a survivor.

Once again, leaving a school (say CSU) for a better an environment at BYU and away from an enviroment you didn't want to be in is NOT the same as leaving BYU because you weren't getting playing time.

I'm just glad Drew has been a legitimate D1 starter before. Not just a pity/RM scholarship but someone who can come in and provide legitimate depth and maybe even a BYU starter.
