Spring Football Season

I'd love to see a three-game season following spring ball. You could even make the games regional to limit travel and time away from classes.



How awesome would that be? Teams across the nation would have three weeks of practice, followed by three games.



Then your pre-season rankings could be based on some actual footage.

I've already bought season tickets.

all the div 2 schools are going to be in demand. If we have a 3 game beauty pageant for rankings, there'll be a clamor for patsies like never before.



Going to have to put rules in place limiting lesser competition.

More is not always more.

We have such an addictive society.

Longer NBA and MLB seasons are ruining the sports. It's. All about money for the pros. But injuries and longer seasons aren't making it more appealing.

I love college football. But this is a bad idea.

I agree with dm. Too much injury risk. If we would have had it this year, we couldn't have fielded a team. Well, that's stretching it a bit, but you get the concept.

I don't like the idea. They are students. I say give them a 'break' between seasons. in reality they don't really get a break, but to add additional games would just put even more pressure and burden on the students.

Many feasts make no feasts. I absolutely love fb. But the break really helps.

I'm happy with the amount of football now. I'd rather they focus on getting a playoff put together.

With the voting system (what a joke) there could not possibly be any Cinderellas. No Joe Namath phenomenon.

But, money talks. The haves do not want to share. They want to exploit and keep it all.



We need!! a true championship. Not a voted one. That is the way to add excitement to our great passion. Not off season scrimmage games. But, I still love fb.

Why should a sixth seed be the best team in the league. I'd love to see the NFL eliminate the playoffs or change it up. AFC teams play all the other AFC teams. The team with the best record plays the NFC team with the best record.



I like the single table format they do in European soccer. Everyone plays everyone twice. The team with the best record is the best team of the season. No need for playoffs.

"Best Team" is subjective. If you want a champion, you have a playoff. If you want a subjective "Best Team" you vote on it and argue about it endlessly. The more talented are often beaten by the less talented. That is what makes sports so exciting and why the NFL playoffs are always exciting. Sports is about entertainment for both fans and players. What is more entertaining for players, playing in a series of games that can lead to a championship, or hoping you get voted as one of the two best teams so that you have a chance? I imagine most players would have more fun controlling their own destiny in a limited four to six team playoff. What is most entertaining for the fans? My guess is a limited playoff--then we get to speculate and talk about who is going to win out of the four to six teams--much like March Madness is extremely entertaining. Note this in contrast to the exasperating conversations we currently have about College Football post season. A limited four to six team playoff would be dynamite.



Back to the original thread, even if you had Spring games, I imagine it would be much like the NFL. Your starters would play one or two series and then you would "build depth." In short, not much worth the risk of injury and not very entertaining. I don't watch much preseason football for that reason.



Again, the purpose of sports (at least in my mind) is entertainment both for the fan and the player. If it does not heighten the entertainment, don't do it or get rid of it.

As a coach, I see the regular season not only as a chance to prove my worth for a postseason bid, but also to improve. Are teams supposed to be playing at their peak after a single month of preparation or after they've seen different offenses and defenses and different athletes at different positions throughout the season? Giving the championship to the best regular-season team is saying "here is the team that was most prepared for the season after one month to get ready," whereas crowning a playoff champion says "here's the team that not only earned their way in, but also improved during the season." I like the second option better, because it means a team with potential can slip-up a time or two, but learn from it and end up as the best team in the sport.

I wish they would bring back the kitties and play Snow College, etc. and develop depth. That is something missing compared to the glory years.
