Is 2012 a rebuilding year?

Given the lack of hype and general excitement coming out of spring ball, what are you thoughts?



If it is a rebuilding year, does that mean fewer wins are expected/acceptable?



If it's not a rebuilding year, should BYU win more games than last?



My feelings:

- It's not a rebuilding year and I think BYU will win at least 10 games next year.

29 seniors on the team - hardly a rebuilding year.

No. Unless you are talking about fans rebuilding their belief in BYU Football greatness.

After all the Bronco NC hype;

After all the Heaps hype and deflation;

After all the Big 12 hype and lack of results;

Fans are reluctant to rebuild any typical fan mania. A lot of hesitency it seems to me.

Rebuilding year for the fans, not the team.

No way.



This team has a Sr QB,3 returning Oline players, returns 3 key WRs, all TEs, and returns the best RB we had last year. On D, we return 4 Dline players with starting experience, 4 LBs with starting experience, and all 4 secondary players have either started or played in important games. Both kickers also return.



2013 will be a rebuild year.

No, I meant rebuild.



We will have to start a QB with zero starts, we will lose 3 Oline players--possibly 4 that contribute. On D we lose our whole Dline, both starting ILBs, and maybe even 1 OLB. We lose 1 corner and 1 safety. All told, we lose at least 11 of 22 2012 starters.

You forgot the Indy hype and subsequent deflation...Idaho who? In the middle of November?

Mixed feeling about Indy - as an out-of-stater, I loved being able to see 10 games and 4 live - wouldn't have traded the Ole Miss, TX, OSU and HI games. Not too impressed with WAC teams, although again, able to see them on TV when I couldn't in previous years.



Holmoe told us that the first couple of years would be difficult as most big name teams have their schedules locked up years in advance. Unrealistic to think we would get all great games right out of the starting gate. 2013 is going to be very tough, and IMO 2012 is a huge upgrade compared to 2011. The home schedule is what is probably irking in-state fans. However, can't say that it was that great to watch UNLV, WY, SDSU, NM play us at home when we pasted them - still played inferior competition. We are getting exposure with Indy - SEC/B12 fans said they watched us on ESPN and came to know us - exposure did happen - that is huge when it comes to recruiting and getting recognition by other coaches.



Back to thread - 2013 is our rebuilding year - although I believe that it will be tempered by our new commitment to summer training and the fact that we have very good 2-deep talent that should help to fill the void from departing seniors.

Well - I was going to vote yes. But it would not let me vote. Then it made me log on to comment. So maybe I can vote now. But I will downgrade to reload unless Riley Nelson gets injured or the offensive line continues to be suspect, injured, and lacking in depth. I see a lack of depth elsewhere as well. And - this team is not exactly loaded with 2013 NFL prospects - ie early 1st rounders or even first rounders at all.





Last year we had almost everybody back on the OL and they disappointed. I expect the OL to be a rebuild and that can kill a team. I amot sure whether we have a gfreat running back or just several fairly good ones. I hope Riley stays healthy. And even if he does, I thought I was the only guy that believed he could throw more than 10 yards and that he would not be ducking and running every time the pressure came.



He will see a ton of pressure early next year. He will handle it better than Jake did - but will not handle it to the satisfaction of those with glory years, BCS Bowl, undefeated season type expectations.



This team will not go undefeated - ulesss it somehow does. Who would have thought the 1984 team was going to do it.



College football - BYU football particularly - is a blast. Looking forward to a fun season.

Is it time to reset the count down clock? Sept 1. i don't know if they have set the start time though. Almost 5 months away.

My relocation to Las Vegas has me pretty excited about my chances to actually use my season tickets this year. I am still packing so tomorrow would be too soon, but September seems so far away.



We will probably have turned down a couple more Big 12 invites by then - TIC.

Can the OLine actually be worse than last year? I don't think so. Everything else should be as good if not better...even if Uale is still a starter.



2012 cannot be a rebuilding year, but if it is then we might be waiting until 2014 to actually be good again.

Hoffman won't get drafted unless he has a Austin Collie's MONSTER junior year type year.



HE might after good stats his junior and senior years though.

He will be pro material if he plays the entire year like he has in the last half of the last 2 years. He needs to work on consistency and route running. On the plus side, he already has 6 TDs (Two 3-TD bowl games) and returned a KO for a TD which has garnered a lot of attention. He is bigger, faster and has made more acrobatic catches than Collie - just needs Collie's work ethic and consistency.

Hoff is turning into a very productive WR. He may even be among the greats by end of his Jr year. But to compare him to Collie leaves one unmistakable difference. AC could consistently get separation--critical for the NFL. I am not convinced that Cody can get that done--not against equal or better competition. Not taking anything away from CH. Love that he is on our football team and maybe the highest contributor if measured over the last 2 years.
