Implications of SMU, Gonzaga and BYU in NCAA Tourney

Final in OT: St. Mary's 78, Gonzaga 74. These two teams are clearly in a class by themselves in the WCC and could go deep if they continue to play the way they did in this game. BYU should benefit from having played them for SOS (albiet they didn't do well against them). However, I think having played them has provided them with valuable experience and training. We just need our players to get healthy so we can compete at full strength and show our true potential.

Too bad Pangos chose to have his best game against us, then have a horrible game tonight.

As someone posted earlier, Zags had time to prepare for us and they were ready. On short notice, like the SMU championship game, they didn't have the luxury. SMU is legit and their backcourt schooled the Zags inexperienced players. Will be interesting to see where these two teams end up being seeded.

BYU is in the tournery. Record helped: The WCC is one of two conferences (Big XII) with three 25+ win teams (BYU, GON, SMC).

BYU is only in if there are not a lot of upsets in the conference tourneys this week. Keep cheering for the top teams to win and hope there are more than a couple of upsets or we're going to the NIT. It's plain and simple.

Sports Illustrated's Andy Glockner has BYU as "one of the last four in" and a No. 11 seed, playing as part of the "First Four" in Dayton. Glockner has the Cougars playing Northwestern with the winner squaring off against Murray State.

We will be ranked higher if both Oregon and Nevada win their tourney games - will strengthen our SOS.
