How would you rate the regular season?

Please rate the BYU Cougar's regular season basketball results.



Share any insights or thoughts as for the rating you give.

Lose Jackson and Jimmer. Yet we're still a good offensive and defensive team. We go from a guard dominated style to one where our post starters were getting close to 40 points a night. We played lineups featuring four freshmen at times. Lost lots of games to injuries (Collinsworth, Rogers, Hartsock). We still managed to win 25(+) games.



For a rebuilding year, it was a very good year.

The regular season turned out about how I expected it would. Not winning the WCC but being in the mix, and being a tourney bubble team.



That was before the season started. After the Baylor game, I raised my expectations a bit. I figured if we could maintain that kind of play, especially with what Carlino showed in his first game, we could definitely win the conference and get a midlevel seed.

I would rate the regular season as basically--regular

Totally agree - we were really exceeding and thus raising expectations at that point, but then things tapered off down the stretch.



In totality - exceeded my pre-season expectations even though 4 and 5 in WCC gave the top guys more fight than expected. We overcame that

I thought that we'd really be rebuilding this year and we would only have a very remote shot at the big dance. So, I'd say we somewhat or slightly exceeded my expectations.

Mars brings up a good point about injuries hurting us, yet we still end up about where you think we would at the start of the season.



I'm curious as to what those who have selected below expectations are thinking. Just that replacing Jackson Emery and Jimmer Fredette wouldn't be that big of a deal?

I've seen more BYU basketball this year than any year since I was a student - for this reason alone I've loved every second! :love:

Although I knew that we lost a huge amount with the graduation of J & J, I felt that we had a great deal of talent coming back with Noah and Brandon and a lot of other talented guys. I am by no means disappointed with the season outcome, but am not surprised that they did as well as they did. I expected them to be in the mix, and they were. The only possible surprise is that they did it with so many expected contributors spending game time in street clothes. If Noah is able to contribute any where near normal, I expect them to do well in the tournament.

This! We played a lot of easy games. And we played more than most teams. and we left few out there we really could have won.

I voted below expectation but only because I didn't have a choice of "slightly below expectation". My only disappointment is that Coach Rose has built a "program" and programs don't have big drop offs regardless of Jimmer or who ever. I expected some growing pains but I also expected us to remain in the top 25 and do better than one and done in the tournament, and I didn't expect problems from the WCC. We still have a shot at finishing in the top 25 and getting at least one win in the tournament so they can still meet my expectations.

This about what I expected, though I didn't expect us to have two home losses during WCC play. I expected us to lose on the road.



I hoped for a win either against Wis. or Baylor.



I expect BYU to be in the tourney every year. Don't quite expect us to be top 25 every year, but no reason why we shouldn't go dancing every year.

I expected better this season. I, like KY Coug, expect the program to reload somewhat quickly. We beat the easy teams this year and lost to pretty much every good or great one. Although much of my regret is due to injuries. Had Rogers played vs. Baylor that would've been a W and same goes for Noah @ GU. The 3 point shooting has been quite embarrassing however, which is another reason why I am a bit down on the season. Nothing earth shattering here, but I certainly hoped for more cohesion at this point in the season.

I was very happy and surprised by our record and competitiveness after losing Emery and Jimmer. Was very optimistic about taking conference based upon the Baylor game - which we should have won - as we never again played to that level.



Bothered by inconsistent play by Abouo, Zylstra and Carlino (although this happens to many freshmen). Their supporting effort is what kept us from achieving higher ranking. If the other 2 guys would have stepped up and provided solid numbers each game instead of pulling the disappearing act, we would be champs.



When considering the fact that we lost Rogers and Collinsworth, I believe that Rose has done a masterful job and exceeded expectations by having team respond positively to adversity and be potentially vying for the league title at one point (depending on SMU and Zags game outcomes) in the last games of the season. The real blow is the injury to Hardtock as he is the glue o stabilizing the team and helping us reach our potential.



Hope we get things together, gain confidence and jell in the WCC tourney and pull some upsets in the Big Dance.
