BYU vs NE Big News to Lincoln

I thought I'd go to the main newspaper of Linconln Nebraska, the Journal Star, the newspaper where the Provo Daily Herald's former sports director, Darnell Dickson, went to work last year and see their reaction to the game announced today for 2015 between Nebraska and BYU in Lincoln. I couldn't find one reference to it. Maybe I missed it. They noted that Nebraska had just added Idaho St. for 2012 and made mention that ISU had played two FBS schools in 2011, one being BYU and the other Washington St.



Wow, big impact the news had in that bustling megatropolis. I will admit that with Darnell there, I am a bit surprised.

Given all that, Husker fans were probably more intrigued by Thursday's other scheduling news.



Most noteworthy, Nebraska and BYU have agreed to play in Lincoln on Sept. 5, 2015.



It will be the first football meeting between the Huskers and Cougars, who finished last season 10-3 and ranked in the final poll for the fifth time in six seasons.



The Cougars — national champions in 1984 under LaVell Edwards — have played in a bowl game in each of Bronco Mendenhall's seven seasons as head coach in Provo.



The timing was right for the two programs to meet, BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a statement. He also said something that seemed to suggest other Nebraska-BYU matchups were possible.



"I look forward to developing a long-term relationship with Nebraska," Holmoe said.

Yep, get ready Bib and Cougar nation. A long term relationship on lopsided favor to the Huskers. They will get this one and done and then a bunch of two for ones. Have you guys been to Lincoln? Jack nada to do there , except see the game. I'm not sure I like this relationship. Maybe the Big and PAC 10 deal of having to play one per year, will make a long term with byu not so possible.

I like us getting our foot in the door with Big Tenlevenwelve teams. Geographically, they seem like good teams to play, but I can't think of a game against them since Penn St.

As far as I know, Penn State and Wisconsin are the only two current Big Ten teams BYU has ever scheduled. All the others BYU has played--Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State--have been in bowl games.

And this is what has gone wrong with College Football lately - we should still be playing BCS teams like these in Bowl Games. Luckily we still play a number of PAC teams regular season and in bowl games, but even that trend has moved to UTEP and TULSA as of late.



Bowl Tie ins are anti-competitive and have created less interesting Bowl Games
