Seriously? GU shot 28 more ft's than BYU... They made 27 more attempts than BYU. I don't care what happens in game, there is no way that BYU could foul GU that many more times than they were fouled. Again I didn't see the game, but that looks like biased reffing to me. Not blaming the loss on that, but when a team has 28 more free throw attempts than their opponent, something reeks.

No, the explanation is we were chucking before they could even foul us. It was ridiculous. The Disparity happened in the first half. We were so rushed, so frenetic, it was hard to watch, quite frankly. It was as if, Rose was saying, hey, we'll live by the run and die by the run. W can't get into a half court game with these guys and win. BULL. It was our half court game w Brandon that got us to within 7 points late in the game. Then Chuckie, aka, carlino, started taking quick, out of rhythm shots again. And of course there was always Zylchstra who pulled another 0-fer nuttin! Take it to the rack Z. You gott nuttin but a one in 12 games where you can hit the broad side of a barn. Drive and dish or finish. But you are nnothing like Jimmer, so stop Chuckin and prayin.



Winder had 2 early fouls. One stupid, ticky tack call and one stupid foul. But yes, he should get more pt. poor Harrison, his time to be developed as a fresh is gone. He looked totally like a freshman and now it's tourney time. Opportunity lost.



I think we will be more ok than I thought next year. Others will step up. But pull Noah and pull Charles mostly gutsy performances, notwithstanding his spotty shooting, and this team really takes a hit.

But yes, one upside is we have the more favorable side of the bracket. And on a neutral floor, assuming Rose can find his offense other than "run and chuck", we can beat the Zags. We should have a good showing from byu fans for Saturday night, which is when we should play them. Hopefully with a week of rest for noah, he will be able to contribute something. What a loss he is. brandon is so much easier to double team when Noah is out.

Sad stats for Cougs spelled demise even though we had several chances to get back in the game:



FG % - 31

3 PT % - 21

FT % - 56

Davies line: 23 points, 10 rebounds, 6 steals, 2 assists, 1 block



We got away from his inside play until the end (to within 7) then go stupid with offensive charge and jacking up 3s. Most undisciplined team I have seen and only Harstock has the ability to calm them down as a floor general.

Zylstra belongs on the bench. Watch, though, he'll have a big game against Portland at home on Sat and as a result Rose will be singing his praises. Imagine how much better Harrison would be with the min Zylstra has been getting. Both take bad shots but least Harrison is quicker on D.



Cusick is a serviceable backup PG.

Getting away from pounding it inside and jacking up 3s is what this team does with or without Noah on the floor. Been that way all season.



Granted, had we had Noah we likely would have won. But it wouldn't have been because of his calming effect. We needed his 15 pts/game.



We got stops last night. Our defense was plenty good. We just needed 15 more points.

The FT disparity was worse in the second half. BYU shot 4 FTs in the 1st half and 12 in the second. Gonzaga shot 15 in the first half and 29 in the second.



ANY game where there are MORE fouls than minutes in the game, is a very poorly officiated affair. ANY game where a team has more FTAs than FGAs is a very poorly officiated game (yes that includes the BYU-USF game where BYU had 53 FTAs and 54 FGAs).

We played hard enough to win. We missed bad shots. We missed good shots.



Cusick in particular has 3 really good looks from the 3 pt line.

If you had told me Davies would have 23 and 10, Abouo would have a double-double, Gonzaga would shoot less than 40% and have 20 turnvoers, I've had told you I'll like our chances to win. Instead, we got a game in which I don't think BYU ever had a chance to win.

You must not have watched the first half.



Davies was 2-10 on basically layups and missed dunks the first 8 minutes. Yes he got aggressive and pulled his head out somewhat in the 2nd, but he is a big part of the reason we went down at the half. Gonzaga went running, and we feed the post consistently with good looks and he was absolutely bricking. We got down by a dozen points early, feeding the post and watching Davies do absolutely nothing with it. Then watching him get beat down court and muscled down low by Sacre.



Carlino was the only reason we weren't down by 20 points or more at the half. He was just about the only person scoring and making plays during those first half runs...

I agree with everything said so far. That was a hard game to watch and I bet we win with Noah.



It was encouraging though how hard we fought to the bitter end. Many times in the second half, it looked like Gonzaga was about to put us away for good and we fought back. We just weren't disciplined enough to sustain the runs

Wow, I'm glad I didn't watch the game last night. I DVR'd it, but maybe I won't watch it.

We held GU to two buckets for over 10 min, but still managed to be down by 10 points. :gross:

Similar to the SMC game in Provo, the officials were poor and inconsistent, but they didn't cost BYU the game. Like in the USF game, a team with that much of a disparity in free throws is a sign of poor officials, but the Zags were better than us last night.



Their effort wasn't better, but their play was. We lost the game, because as poorly as they played last night we were worse. And our poor play seemed to have less to do with GU than us just missing easy and/or open shots.



Like was said in other posts, Davies had a good game, but he missed a TON of shots in the 1st half that could have really changed the game early.

Again, it was the pacing of the shots and the game. BYU just seemed to be chucking up shots praying they would go in. Even Davies form up close in the first half. When we slowed and were more deliberate in our shots, we looked better. BUt it was like watching greyhounds play ball, except Zylchstra--he was like watching a brick-layer.
