I don't know if we'll ever know. It's been the best part of four years that he has hardly played. I can't even imagine what it is like to have a nagging injury like that.

We would have been a better team with him and his abiliy, based on how he contributed before his mission.

I don't think he'll ever be a contributor at BYU. In fact, I'll be surprised if he's on the roster next year. I could see a medical hardship dismissal granted.

I don't see how they'd do that with no J.C. help in sight for the post players. I think you have to keep him and hope for the best.

Not sure why you think he is done. I spoke with the team doc during the USF game about all the injuries, especially Collinsworth. He says it is doing pretty well since the second surgery (which was done by a different surgeon). Not planning to play anymore this season, but They hope to get him a medical redshirt for this year. He is excited about having the extra year to play with his brother, if they grant it. They are pretty optimistic that he will be back next year. I think he will be a stabilizing force on the young team we will have next year.

I'm not sure what the history is for the NCAA to grant consecutive medical redshirts for the same injury. Especially for returned missionaries.

Not often that a person has a sports injury to his knee and it takes this long to overcome. Probably is not common place. I do hope he comes back. He was awesome on the boards and I think over time his shot can be refined. My only hesitation is that Rose said in a Cougar Club meeting that sometimes it's hard to keep someone who is really four years removed from regular playing ball to remain positive and not give up. He said he tries often to encourage Chris, but didn't come across to me that Chris isn't thinking himself that he'll never be physically able to perform. If things are more optimitic with this new surgeon, then maybe things will change and he'll come back. I can't see him giving up until at least he has a degree and with the incentive of his brother coming back, we'll see. Kyle is not due back from Russia Vladivostok until a year from this June.

Did he already get a medical redshirt? The doc did say they were trying to get a 6th year for him, so maybe that is what he meant. You're right, Chris wouldn't be able to play with Kyle unless he got the extra year, but I think having that to look forward to would be enough to keep him motivated.

I don't like the microfracture surgery. I know that some athletes have come back from it but many do not. Greg Olden of the Portland Blazers is one of those. I read an article that said that the bone that heals in the fracture is weaker than the original and that is why it does not work all of the time. Considering the time that it is taking to heal, it is not a good sign and I don't really expect him to return to the floor, except for a brief moment. That has been his experience so far. Olden has played like 82 games in his career of 5 years.

Chris is a redshirt sophmore this year, so his redshirt Senior year would be Kyle's first year back, so either Kyle's sophmore year or redshirt year if he was not ready to contribute. So they could still play the year together if Kyle is game ready regardless of a 6th year.

IF, and that's a big IF, he can come back full strength, his best output would be 6-10 points per nit and about the same for rebounds. He's a tough journeyman player. But this offense could never run thru him or be designed around him. Tough kid. Tough breaks for him. I hope he can come back.
