What Does BYU Need To Do To Make The Dance

If we lose to a rising USF squad tonight in SF?



Win the WCC Tournament.



USF is much better now than when we whipped them in Provo. Zylstra is not likely to go 8-8 again. BYU is not likely to shoot over 50% again. BYU will need to defend vs an improved USF squad. USF coach acknowledges having brought a bad game plan to Provo.

Agree, if we lose to USF tonight we have to win the WCC tournament.



Should we win against USF, but lose to GU and not win the WCC tournament I'm still not convinced. Perhaps, if we make it to the WCC championship and lose to SMC or GU.



SMC is banged up right now. There's a decent chance they lose on the road to USF next week. That happens and we win out the rest of the season we're looking at a three-way tie for first between SMC, GU, and BYU. Since we would have beaten GU twice, we'd get the 2nd seed in the WCC tournament, which I like. Win one game and we're in the WCC finals.

We make the dance if



We win out the regular season and win the conf tourney

We win out in the regular season and win our 1st tourney game

We win the conference tourney independent of regular season

We lose to USF but beat Gonzaga and make it to the conference tourney finals

We lose to Gonzaga but beat USF and make it to the conference tourney finals



assuming we don't win the counference tourney:

we don't make it if we lose to both USF and Gonzaga in the reg season

we lose to santa clara or portland regardless of usf or gonzaga

I believe I'm now convinced that we're in the Dance as long as we don't lose to anyone not named Gonzaga or SMC more than once. My only caveat would be if a team other than the Zags or Gaels make it to the championship game.

Kind of glad we don't have to answer this question - almost did.



Now we just continue to be in a position where we cannot lose to anyone not named Gonzaga or SMC. It is that simple.

SMC appears to be waining, while LMU is surging. SMC was noted as late as Thursday to be a lock, along with GU with BYU outside the window looking in. LMU continues to surge and somehow takes the WCC tourney, then SMC, GU or BYU is going to be missing the Dance. No way 4 teams make it from the WCC.



I believe we beat GU this week, and we are finally a lock.

GU lost to SF who is now surging. Looks like we now have a top 5 in the league.
