New Scoreboards

Well, if all else fails...we get some awesome new scoreboards.

KSL.com has a posting with some pics of what it could possibly look like. I think it will be amazing and am excited to see them. It is good we are being competitive with other stadiums.

I am hearing that there are going to be 2 new video boards and they will be the same size on each end. So perhaps hoping for 1 massive video board might not happen. However, sounds as if both might be similar in size to the Ole Miss board, for those who went to that game, with better sound quality, and LED ribbons on both endzones for advertising. The word I got is from a BYU donor, so I guess we shall see. Hoping they give more specifics on this tonight as well on TrueBlue.

Cool, but will they help us win games? Maybe - if recruits like them. LES remains a competitive advantage over Utah in recruiting. Big time for this region.



But - having said that - it is time for BYU fans to create such ticket demand, that the stadium that was shrunk from 65K to 63K capacity is mandated by fans to increase to at least 85K with sellouts no matter the weather or the opponent or the team record.

Oh - and wear blue. Then, it will be easier to afford the necessary payday to get storied programs to come to our crib to play.

I see fill the staidum in and then make the seats bigger and more comfortable. that gives you the option of expanding later if you need to and makes the seats they have more comfortable and appealing. also makes the stadium look way better and sound louder.

That should raise average attendance quite a bit if they allow fans to bring kids and have a kid in every lap.



Seriously - we make noise about wanting to be an elite program. Let's list a few that seem to be elite enough to get into any conference they want and demand and get 2 for 1s from us and others.



Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU, Nebraska, and Michigan. Those 10 can name their ticket even though some still have not won a NC for quite a while.



How many of those have less than 65,000 seats. And yes - USC plays in an old stadium and does not fill it regularly. But they have the seats and when they want a 1 for 1 with ND - tickets sell, ND comes, and all is well.



BYU fans need to rise up and demand a better team - by making BYU such a hard ticket to get that seats get added 25,000 more seats should mean $1M extra revenue to share with an elite visitor. And then when they come - prime time ESPN probably adds another extra $1M.



Build it, FILL it, and they will come.

absolutely. Those two boards coupled with the ticker along the top will make for quite a bright and abrasive spectacle, especially when they all start flashing all at once. Like when an opposing WR is about to make a TD catch or when the opposing kicker is about to make contact with the ball.



Oh. and i want the scoreboards to be large enough that BYU can sell football tickets on the top of the SWKT and still see everything that's going on. There's your seat expansion!

BYU could certainly do more on their part to increase demand. I'm going to go to the games no matter what but it sure would be nice to see more replays and scores of other games. I get why they don't show the controversial ones but why don't they show the other ones?



I have some Ute friends (I know it's an oxymoron) that gave up their tickets of 15 years last year because of the price increases. They miss going but they don't regret it as the games now take 3 hours instead of 6-7 to attend and they get to watch replays and other games. There's definitely an argument about watching the games from home on ESPN.



It also wouldn't hurt to allow fans to bring in water when it's 95 degrees outside. That's a lot of Dasani bottles to purchase at $3 a pop. Somehow it's a safety issue (allegedly) at LES but not at the Marriot Center. (Isn't heat stroke a safety issue? Maybe they're trying to clear out the blue hairs in the cougar club :whistle: )

Hopefully the LED Ribbon can show more stats and scores during the games.

DiLuigi against Air Force running towards the end zone has a DB catch him at the 10 yard line and the ball was punched out. Chambers tried to pick it up instead of jump on it and the ball went out of bounds though the back of the end zone. Being this was a road game the new screens wouldn't have helped, but the principal could have been applied were they there.



Even if you don't have to take your shoes off to count the number of occurrences for this type of fumble, it still shows that yes a new video scoreboard could actually win a game for you.



If Leon Lett would have looked at the jumbotron he would have seen Don Beebe coming from behind...

Unfortunately, you're probably more right than I am.

With 2 new LED screens, plenty of space for stats. Just not during the replay. They should use one to perpetually show game/player stats, and to also show scores from other games. They can really improve the stadium experience with those 2 additions.



I do think the LED ribbons will be all adds all the time as well.

OU and FSU in 2009. FSU was the last time they ran that same bubble screen play for him.

Well, NuSkin didn't give the boards to the University out of the goodness of their hearts. It's an advertising revenue generator. Stats and scores are incidental.



Oh, and you want free water at the games? Maybe you should demand lower hot dog prices too?

Re: Stadium capacity.



I'm with Spiff. Lower ticket availability, upgrade and lower seats (so you don't have "Big Carl" with elbow room overflowing into 3 seats).



HAVE A FREAKING STUDENT SECTION!!!



And the most important thing for season ticket sales? Don't have a 2 season home game schedule consisting of:

Utah

UCF

Utah State

SJSU

Idaho State

Idaho

New Mexico State

Washington State

Weber St

Hawaii

Oregon St

and

Idaho

It's a double edged sword. They are making games more available than ever, (good) while providing quite possibly their worst two home game seasons ever (the bad). So for those people looking for that "one game" to justify the $200-500 blow to their wallet, it just simply isn't there. Then you factor in drive time, time spent at game, and the inevitable "cougar tail, etc" and you are talking about serious time/money invested. I don't really see the return last and this year.



We know the scheduling will get better, yadda yadda yadda. But if you want to fill the stands consecutively, you have to have every other game AT LEAST be something worth paying for and traveling to. Otherwise you will see more people staying at home, watching the games on tv, and putting that money into some peoples kids' braces or something.



(And don't get me wrong, I'm NOT preaching to the choir here. Most of the people that read this on a fan site will be there at every game or at least wish they were - out of state, etc - I am talking about the casual observer, which makes up the majority of any team. Not us, the superfans. ;) )
