If you could change one rule.....

If you could change just one rule in NCAA football, what would it be? It can be a game rule or an administrative rule.



Personally, I'd let there be up to four men in motion on offense.

In this order:



1. Spot foul for pass interference

2. Player must be touched down

3. Receivers must have two feet in-bounds

Helmet comes off, the player has to sit for the next play, or take a time out.

Auto ejection and games missed for anyone executing a chop block.



Also, something to do with players getting "hurt" at the end of games. They have to sit out ONE play for every 30 seconds they are down, and the clock has stopped.

This - when a player A makes a cheap hit and injures another player B - Player A should be suspended until Player B recovers.

-False start penalty is not called unless a defensive player is immediately drawn offsides.



-Also, and I know this is very specific, any team with a mascot of cougars or with school initials of BYU may not punt the ball when the offense has the ball within their own 40 yard line. At the 40 yard line, you can punt. Less than that, you get punched in the face.

Eliminate the high hit rule. This rule is typically enforced incorrectly and usually during the last drive of the game.

1) Institute a 2-minute warning in CFB.

2) Change WR possession rule to require 2 feet inbounds for a catch.

3) For a playoff, a team starts possession at the 25 for first OT, 30 for 2nd OT, 35 for 3rd OT, etc.

4) Can have 2 players in motion at a time.

remove the roughing the punter rule. Force punting teams to either increase protection or get more punishing kickers.

I still think O-lineman shouldn't be able to jump before the snap, but let the rest of the offense move around.

in addition to XP and two point conversion, allow a 3 pt conversion following a TD. Starts on the 20 and you have one play.

allow bounce passing. One hop. (traps and bobbles don't count)

Make dead ball fouls have no bearing on the down or yards-to-go. I.E. If the end of the play resulted in 4th and 8, then just move the ball 15 yards one way or the other and still have it be 4th and 8.

Like Lawboy said, back up the starting point for OT. The team should have to pick up at least 5-10 yards to have a high percentage field goal try.



Also quit making new rules to speed up the clock. It's ripping off the fans. Instead shorten halftime to 10 minutes for any host school who's band can't learn more than 1 new song per year. (Although the 40 yard tall alien catching a touchdown pass this year was entertaining. That’s the last time since the 90’s I wasn’t bored out of my mind at halftime at LES.)

5 men on the line of scimmage. Alot of penalties and the 6th man was half a yard off the line.

Intentional grounding should be an extra five yards from the spot of the foul.

Eliminate the "intent to deceive" penalty.

3. Onside kick only has to go 5 yards, but the receiving team still has to be 10 yards away from the ball.

1. Pay the athletes market value

2. Player must be touched down

3. Reset clock to time left before the play on a defensive penalty (at option of offense)

4. Just for fun - ball must be touched down in the endzone to score (like rugby)

Eliminate the XP unless going for 2.

Kicking team can advance muffs and onsides kicks.
