Memphis to Join BEAST WEST in all Sports

Latest rumor. 2013 most likely. Will still leave BEAST WEST short one team when all of the current dust settles. Further cannibalizes C-USA / Big Country.



I guess basketball still matters in BEAST.



You would think with the challenges faced by BIG 12 and BEAST that being in a position to join in 2012 would have carried more weight.

Navy makes 12 if I am counting correctly. BSU and SDSU sure look funny on a map of the conference. You could add 4 more West teams and make two divisions.



But no doubt - when you look at the old and new teams - post exodus - BEASTWEST is looking pretty well picked over. Boise State has a FB program that has performed better than BYU for several years. I am not sure anyone else has one that has performed as well as BYU. Balancing all sports - BYU would be the class of that league as near as I can tell.

It is now official. Memphis is in.

Conf USA and Mtn West now proceeding with merger taks as C-USA Commish actuially says he expects no more losses to Big East because Big East Commish says they are done expanding and says he hopes other conferences value stability in college football.



Maybe the two Commishes have not heard the Louisville and possibly one other BEAST WEST to Big XII rumor.



BW may be through expanding - but likely not through shrinking and then needing to replace their further losses probably at the expense of C-USA and or Mtn West.



BIg Country will need to dig deep. Hopefully USU gets a break.

I really think the 8 Catholic schools of the Big East should break off and make their own conference. Maybe pick up Xavier and St. Bonaventure to make it a 10 team conference in the similar manner that the WCC exists today. Their basketball brands are much stronger than the football brands that they are affiliated with. I'd rather see Georgetown play Villanova, Marquette, and Notre Dame twice a year than seeing them play teams like UCF and smu.

Or pull in 4 more western football teams to BEASTWEST and add the WCC schools and try to upgrade the football commitment level of the football teams to become more competitive and press the western basketball teams to step it up as well.
