I have high hopes for Houk.

I wouldn't really call Sawyer Powell a grayshirt. I guess he is technically, but not really. He enrolled last month, attending on his own dime, then serving a mission after this semester and will have a schollie waiting when he returns.

Me too. He will be the next one to play.

I generally have no hopes for walk-ons. If they contribute, it is all gravy. Most of these guys are just raw meat for the team to beat on in practice.

Walkons have low chances of making it but a few do so it is worth it to have as many as possible. Hope we get another Pitta soon.

Bronco has stated that he has a soft spot in his heart for the walkons, and he loves the attitude and hard work that they can bring to the team. No sense of entitlement with these guys.



Former walk-ons on the 2011 team include Bryan Kariya, Jameson Frazier, Matt Marshall, Marco Thorson and Travis Uale. Other former BYU walk-ons who have had outstanding collegiate careers include NFL All-Pro Chad Lewis and All-American Dennis Pitta.

During the five years Bronco has been coach - 29 walk-ons have earned scholarships. He believes it is the highest number in the country and the approach will continue as long as he is coach.

The surprising thing is that walkons are ignored during their playing career and are not offered scholarships. How can a Dennis Pitta not be offered by anyone, and becomes an All-American, and will likely be a pro-bowler some day. Does some huge transformation occur from HS to college? Pitta was a success as a freshman.

Undersized initially is common, some times moving position. And just pure effort.

Perfect example of a guy who went the JC route is Preston Hadley. He was undersized no one wanted him, walked on at Snow after the mission worked his butt off and now he's a freaking stud.
