All we need is for our outside guys to start hitting shots. Davies and Hartsock were still able to put up numbers when they were the only ones producing, but we've been completely one-dimensional the last four games.

We might win at home.

If I was a Gonzaga coach, I would try very hard to get the same crew and then smile as the BYU fans disrupt the game and got more technicals. My most unfavorite team, USC, has a fight song that goes, "Fight on for old SC". Do the Cougars have one that goes, "Whine on for BYU?."

The BYU crowd got a single tech, they didn't lose the game for BYU and neither did the horrendous officials.

Look, I'll willingly concede that BYU fans acted inappropriately last night, and there's no excuse for what happened. But context needs to be given. That was uniquely bad officiating. Not just "the calls aren't going our way" or "the refs are discouraging any real physicality" (my usual problem with WCC refs), it was "at any given moment, a whistle could be blown and you'll have absolutely no clue why." BYU wasn't the only victim either - SMC's coach got T'd up, and from my vantage point he did nothing more than point at a ref. By the end of the game, I was so mixed up in the game's warped logic that I really wasn't affirming or protesting calls anymore. It's like the game had me so confused I didn't even KNOW what a foul was anymore.



I don't know how many crowds would have reacted AS BADLY as BYU's last night. But I think a fair number of crowds WOULD have gotten riled up. You would've heard booing/chanting with those refs anywhere.



I hope your comments don't reflect a growing opinion within the entire WCC, but really. It wasn't your team on either side of the ball last night. BYU fans were mostly gracious when your team beat us at home. We didn't organize a mob to run the refs out of town after we lost to LMU. You've seen enough BYU hoops to know that throwing garbage isn't a regular pastime in Provo.



When we were conference buddies with SDSU, we had to put up with entire student sections dressed mockingly as missionaries and signs that caused Vern Lundquist to remark that they couldn't broadcast some parts of the student section. And that was against our actual team! And sure, we complained about it a lot, but I don't think very many of us got onto SDSU forums to call them creeps or classless human beings. And along those lines, I don't really understand why, on two consecutive days, you've chosen to come here and chew us out.



I've liked your contributions elsewhere, and I hope you haven't soured on us. But as embarrassing as a few of our fans were last night, I don't really see why you're chastising us.

You should see the comments made about BYU on other fan forums. I give it 3 years until once again we're dealing with bigoted signs and un-broadcastable student section.

Not a problem. The WCC has had its share of bad fan reactions during the past several years but never like the one Saturday night. Yes, the officiating was bad, but that does not justify disrupting the game by fans throwing things on the floor. For a program that is used to winning, especially at home, it has to be traumatic to experience losses like the Cougars have had this year. That does not excuse poor fan reaction.



True WCC fans thought that the addition of BYU would not only bring additional quality to the conference, but a sense of class that had been somewhat lacking. In other words, BYU was bringing us into the "big time." Saturday night has us wondering. Playing in that beautiful arena is intimidating enough - wondering if it is safe is another story.

If you live in proximity to Los Angeles, you don't have to troll the board - they dominate the L.A. media.

Our fans reaction is nothing like the boorish behavior of USU, SDSU and from time to time, UNM and UNLV. While I don't condone the throwing of materials on the floor, I can see how if happened. They fans were sick and tired of missed calls that seemingly had the ability to dictate tempo and comeback. Unfortunately, our players didn't react well to the poor calls while SM stepped up to the plate.



One thing the WCC needs to improve is the quality of the refs if they want to be taken seriously as league. As a former player, the officiating was bush league - terrible, and you can espect fans to get upset with the type and quality of calls that were being made. While SM is clearly the better team, I expect good officiating for a game of this magnitude. Poor, poor decision to allow those cast of clowns to officiate anymore big time games. Yes, the refs can dictate the play of teams by how they officiate and yes, they can influence crowd behavior.

Throwing stuff on the basketball court should never happen. Period.

Nonetheless - since we are not betting, I will slip on the Blue Goggles and pray that at least one guard gets hot and supports Davies and Hartsock. Maybe they are all looking over their shoulder trying to earn PT?

I think Rose needs to break down and play man defense. IMO that means bringing Zylstra off the bench and starting Winder/Harrison. Defensively we just give up too much with him on the court.

I've seen very little justification of the fans behavior (throwing things onto the court) on Saturday night.

Yep, the zone isn't masking our defensive man-to-man liabilities like it did last year.
