How much does losing Nua hurt?

We lose another poly recruiter and a guy who's been with us for a while and knows the BYU system.



Since he was working as a GA, does that mean it didn't count against our number of coaches? if so, Did we just lose a freebie coach? if not, do we finally have room for Detmer? :D

It only opens a spot for detmer if detmer wants to be a GA.

It is unpaid so it is a good move for him and he goes to a LDS coach. He should not compete with us for players. Maybe some day he will return.

I like this move because it increases the ranks of experienced LDS coaches. We need more LDS coaches to go out there into other regions and learn and grow and then when we have coaching vacancies open up, we have experienced coaches with a level of coaching success to choose from.

Hard to say if it will hurt at all until we see who BYU chooses to fill that GA spot. I suspect that it means that Rob Morris gets moved to the D side as a GA, and that BYU will add an offensive assistant. Morris was working with the O.

I believe that's that the graduate portion of the title implies - that they're working on master's or higher degree. I don't know if GAs can also be paid though.

Pretty sure there is no pay. So Morris played in the NFL making some bucks and now in a volunteer working for free while paying for school. I guess you have to pay your dues to make a career.

The point of being a grad assistant (apart from being a coach) is that you get grad school paid for.

So it's almost like being on scholarship, but for the coaching staff?

I can't say exactly for the football team, but being a coach who has actively been looking at grad assistant positions, I can tell you that they all pay for so many credits of grad school a semester and many have a small stipend attached, as well.

And if you want to coach - you gotta start somewhere - grad assistant at a major program could get you a full-time assistant job - at - say - Navy or someplace else Joe Dupaix or another coach might help you find.



You gotta believe that BYU felt Nua was deserving and Joe Dupaix helped him find a paying job after he paid his dues at BYU.

Navy's coach said he attended some of our Spring practices and notice Nua there. Don't know if Joe helped or not. He has a son on our team.
