BYU to B12 picking up steam with media again

Apparently, talk show in Los Angeles covered it today, along with a big SEC show(Atlanta) in the south. Added to Lingo's post yesterday. So the topic is on the radar again nationally, which is good for BYU because it means we are talked about as being a solid target.

I think that fact that ESPN went to the B12 early to renegotiate that deal and requested 12 teams is a big factor. ESPN wants a Champ Game. IF the new offer provides as much or more $$ with 12 teams than it does with 10, it will happen.

Whether that means BYU decides to do it is a separate question altogether.

I will get sources later for you on this.

Interesting...I am cautiously intrigued.

I also enjoy watching good works of fiction.

Then sometimes at the end you get the real surprise:

based on a True Story.

NO WAY!

I'm not holding my breath. I'm not sure the Big 12 would be a good fit anyway.

BYU was also mentioned as a consideration to the Big 12 this morning on a SD sports news show.

Smoke: more than one outlet has stated BYU was being offered.

Fire: Coincidence (an explanation waiting to happen) or not - we got 2 polynesian walkon's from Euless, TX (a H.S. powerhouse in TX) and two more from Alta. These are good players, all-state, but overlooked. For players to be coming on board as walk-ons from as far away as TX, when they might have a chance to play at home, there must be something brewing. How about the chance to play in a big boy league, and play in front of home town fans.

If non-LDS that would be news. If LDS, they probably know BYU is the place to build the foundation for their life.

Didn't see much fire in the midst of that smoke, but it is very clear that either BEASTWEST or BIG12 are going to have a last minute scheduling scramble for 2012. Perhaps one of them could have a team or two come to Provo as a 1 and done. Wouldn't that be an interesting turn of events.

Personally, I think our schedule already is too top heavy for us. It is also bottom heavy. If anything gets swapped out, Maybe replacing a hapless team like Idaho of last year or Weber State with Kansas might be entertaining without over-reaching.

We can trade an Idaho game for a WVU game. We would even throw in NMSU.

WVU is the one team that will have plenty of games either way - they will either play BEAST or BIG 12 conference games.

Whichever conference does not end up with WVA will have every team that thought they would be playing WVA scrambling for 1 OOC conference game or in the case of Beast, they could have the jilted teams play each other if they can avoid playing each other twice since they have a bunch of teams. But every B12 team is probably expecting to play every Big 12 team already.

I honestly am uninterested. I have little reason to believe any of this and am completely numb about it. if it happens i will celebrate but i have little faith that it will happen.

I allowed myself to get excited about this last fall. I will not fall into that trap again.

Greg Swaim, a media reporter in the KC area has also tweeted on this again. He was also on the radio in SLC today to discuss it and he referred specifically to the report posted on the Chronicle of Higher Education, which is not a sports journal. Read that here:

http://chronicle.com/article/Further-Big-12-Expansion-Is/130446/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This report is what triggered the latest round of rumors, by the way. It was not twitter.

Swaim said he spoke to the author of this and that one of their sources is the same person. He also said that this journal would not post this without reason, and they are not in the business of sports, but of higher ed issues.

Swaim can be found here:

Just passing on info without opinion or judgment.

Fire Extinguisher: You really think a deal is done-ish AND TH knows, Bronco knows, DuPaix knows, the recruits know, presumably their families know BUT none of it has leaked into the tweetosphere.

Not saying it's not possible, just really really really unlikely.

Read Lawboy's recent statement, which backs up my reports that I have gathered. This rumor has legs. While BYU will never leak anything out before making sure everything is acceptable, it doesn't mean things are not being discussed or noted to the players. I believe that a gag order is on if there is anything of substance. They don't want to derail the opportunity with a leak.

Before you get too excited about this new batch of rumors, remember their were prominent media members who were saying it was a done deal before, and it wasn't. Not saying their couldn't be some talks going on, it makes sense for both parties to keep some open communication.

Isn't Craigo in the KC area? Maybe he can shed some light on the track record of Greg Swaim?
