There are three uncommitted prospects that Cougar coaches, along with other recruits, are trying to persuade to sign on February 1.

1. Hiva Lutui - OL - Trinity HS

2. Tenny Palepoi - DL - Snow College

3. Theodore King - DL - Valley Christian HS

I understand that TJ has been visited consistently, and besides his meeting with Bronco, was recently met by another BYU coach to strengthen the relationship, answer questions, clear up misconceptions, and hopefully make his decision easier when considering joining his fellow recruits.

I think TK is close, I believe Hiva has some good connections between his walkon teammates and his cousin Butch Pauu.

Our 2012 class would truly be strengthened if we can land these 3 guys.

I think we get Theodore King, maybe Lutui but its kind of a long shot i think he goes to SC and i actually think we will get Palepoi. We are short on the d-line this year and i think if he commits he will have a legitamate shot at starting.

If any LDS recruit chooses SC, it's basically a jr. college route to BYU anyways.

It all depends on their priorities and confidence. Most star players in high school come out over-confident - so confidence is usually not lacking.

You wanna chase money and fame. Go USC. They pay better up front and you get a very exclusive worldly education with life-time contacts with tremendous wealth - if you are elite - otherwise you get forgotten or even cast aside. Easy to get lost in that shuffle. If you have mission plans, they may get tolerated, but not nurtured or even encouraged. You want to live a BYU HC compatible lifestyle - you might get ridiculed regularly by teammates. If you have the chops - ticket to NFL.

You wanna chase spirituality, have HC and mission encouraged and nurtured, increase odds of finding an eternal mate with those same priorities, are willing to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond - the pay and worldly benefits are less - BYU is the total package.

Still trying to figure out why anyone that would fit in at BYU would ever choose U - but perhaps some do. I suppose if you want PAC and a culture where some of your teammates would respect LDS beliefs - U might be for you. But IMHO you lose more than you gain by choosing U when BYU is an option.

Problem is Lutui is not LDS, he is Methodist.

I think we get 1 of the 3. Hope for 2. Be shocked if all 3 came.

BYU does very poorly with last minute potential signees. I'd be surprised if we got any of the three.

King has no other offers. Unless he gets another he'll sign.

I'm not holding my breath for the other two.

Literally none? Nobody? But then Cort Dennison was only offered by Army and then at the last minute UW before going on to make some all-PAC 1st and 2nd team lists. But he came from a smaller school - Judge Memorial - a little off the big radar. Oh and he was too white, too small, and too slow, supposedly. They just underestimated his intelligence and heart.

How did King go un-noticed.

Scratch the LDS part, but BYU is 0-25 against SC.

I thought Neal and Robinson had already turned us down. Do the rest even still have offers? I'm hoping for King and Palepoi. Lutui would be incredible but I'm not holding my breath.

Dupaix likes our class and still indicates that we are in the hunt for King and Palepoi. Stay tuned for Wed.

Good article. Interesting that no mention is made about Hiva. I think he's a Hail Mary. Not much chance. We'll see. Wed. is almost here.

How does our offering OL Hicks after Junior day affect the "Big 3" uncommitted recruits? Doesn't sound like he was on many people's radar so perhaps we only have 2 schollies for 3 guys?

Hicks is a 2013 recruit so it doesn't affect scholarships available this year.

Looks like we got King. Yay for 1/3 and 2 to go!

Palepoi to Utes. I believe the academic rigors at the Y kept him from signing. He couldn't get in at USU, certainly would have had improve scholastically to survive at Y.

That may be it or it may be that utah is a better place to go if you want to play defensive line in the NFL. we have lost 8 of last 9 defensive line recruits that both byu and utah were going head to head on.

its their equivalent of our quarterback position.
