Charlie's first mistake

Charlie Weis, WHY? Seems like a good way to immediately alienate the newcomers from the rest of the team. Unless, of course, Kansas players are all unselfish, mature, considerate young men who know that their new coach is not trying to dismiss THEIR best efforts. You've made a terrible error Weis. Why not flank your table with guys who have been with the program and given their best efforts instead of the sloppy seconds who are probably now going to have to deal with Kansas players vs Weis transplant players issues.

I have no problem with this. He's trying to imprint himself on the program.

I have no problem with trying to make an imprint (that's going to hurt in your getting imprinted with Weis ;)) but the way he did it is a mistake. He's asking for divisions which BYU has painfully learned should be avoided.

Kansas is a broken program. BYU's divisions, IMO, were grossly overstated. We removed ONE player from the equation and the team seemed as unified as any other BYU team of the past.



Kansas was 10-2 in 1995.They have three winning seasons since then. They have just four seasons of .500 or better. They lost their last 10 games last year and 19 of their last 24 games.



Weis has a very tough task ahead of him of changing a culture of losing.

Former Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist sat behind a table flanked by former BYU quarterback Jake Heaps and ex-Oklahoma wide receiver Justin McCay. Over to the side sat Charlie Weis, the smile on his face stretching nearly ear to ear...

I had no idea that there was an Iggy's Sports Bar & Grill in Lawrence.

My concern if you could call it that since I don't give a lick about KS football, is that Jake is the starting QB in years two and three. It didn't seem to work out too well for him the last time he was proclamed the "starter". It will be interesting to see how this plays out.



I wouldn't worry about the "rest" of the team since Charlie already dismissed just about everyone except maybe the punter who did all the work last year. Anyone left is just quaking in his cleats hoping they get one of them new fangled jerseys with their name on the back.

Kansas is different than BYU. Weis is taking over a 3 win program, not a 10+ win in 4 straight years. Weis is the second coach following Mangino--the one responsible for the BCS bowl.



If players don't want to play for him because of this, it isn't too hard to find more guys who can win 3 games for you.

Charlie's real first mistake:



Owning a Chocolate Factory.

I have no problem with any coach holding a press conference to tout his prized recruits/transfers, especially in a backwater like Kansas looking for a turnaround.



I do have a problem with recruits themselves arranging press conferences to pimp themselves though.
