C-USA and MWC Might dissolve and Form New Conference

WIth all the dead silence, I knew someting was up. Maybe just a power play to force the hand of the MTN or other issues - but forming a new league if no AQ exemption is granted makes total sense. THey should have done this before they lost all of their teams. THis would of course position the new leagure to plunder anything it may want from WAC, MAC, or Sunbelt or woo Independents. WIth BEASTWEST still not fully executed - this only adds confusion to that whole thing. A New BIG WEST Conference (needs a different name as that name is taken) would be better for teams like BSU and SDSU and AFA as well as Houston and SMU. Throw in Tulsa. Solid top and middle. Add a bottom with decent media markets. Go!

The downside of a new league is you throw out the automatic bids to the NCAA tournaments if this new league did encompass all the sports. The MWC received a waiver in the form of a reduction in the number of years it takes to receive a the automatic bid when they formed, but it is still an issue for a new conference. It would also release all of the current bowl games tied to the two conferences leaving them free to negotiate with whomever they wanted. Could be they want to stick to the new conference as they are not that dynamic in scope in the first place, but you put them in the position to do so or not.

Not only that, but you may lose members when the next waive of conference realignment takes place. i hate that college football has been ruined the way it has.

Receiving an auto bid for the NCAA bball tournament would be a snap to pick up. In fact, the NCAA would probably love it. Because it actually reduces the number of auto-bids by one, allowing one more BCS team to pick up an at-large berth.

Yeah, I think it's the pure upstart conferences (like the one UVU is in) that the NCAA is more hesitant about.

It is the only way to kill the MTN Network.

Not really. The MWC teams could join the ConfUSA - then the MWC ceases to exist.

Maybe they should leave NM and let the Mtn televise their games.

Way long time. I do not recall exactly, but it seems like at least 5 more years - maybe longer.

C-USA also has a convoluted TV arrangement iirc.



There is money to be gained for both conferences by dissolving bad contracts.



Maybe all the WAC teams could then join the empty MWC and USU could jump to the new Conference and the MTN could have them leftovers.
