If the question is: Who strikes the most fear in an opponent, the answer is Norm Chow. As far as who I would rather have, the answer is Brandon Doman just because I think he has more upside then the rest at this point in his career.

I don't think Doman strikes fear in anybody.....yet.

Unless he's pulling double duty, Chow won't be an OC next year (if he's HQ/OC then I stand corrected and might change my vote).

I haven't heard Anae's name so much as mumbled during talks of next year's power potential.

As has been noted, Crowton has quite the reputation for coming on in a flash at programs, using their existing talent, the fading. So if Crowton gets named OC at a decent AQ school and I was a coach from a different school in that conference, I would be concerned, especially if we played early in the season.

Chow--easily. Crowton 2nd. Anae 3rd. Doman last, but only because his body of work is much smaller. But I have great hope for Doman.

Norm Chow hasn't been a good OC in college since he returned to the college game. Here's how his offenses have recently ranked:

2011: 80th rushing, 99th passing, 109th total, 74th scoring

2010: 32nd rushing, 116th pasing, 100th total, 104th scoring

2009: 97th rushing, 52nd passing, 88th total, 94th scoring

2008: 116th rushing, 73rd passing, 111th total, 109th scoring

Those are BAD offenses.

Doman's first year:56th rushing, 47th passing, 41st total, 42nd scoring

Now go compare how the QBs fared. Chow made those offenses better than the QB play. He calls a good game, and it was clear to see watching his teams that he helped them be better. And that is where stats alone fail horribly.

Chow announced that nobody - not even him - will be designated OC next year - he and Tommy Lee therefore seem to share it by default - which seems to be an unusual way of saying it is Chiw by saying it isn't anybody.

Yeah, and he only put up 14 on a 2-win Colorado who gave up an average of 37 points a game. The BYU-Utah game this year was a fluke, an anomaly, they played their best game, by far, of the season and we played our worst. Utah was 99th in passing yards, 80th in rushing yards, and 74th in points scored. Their defense, however, was 19th in points allowed. Don't act like Chow was any reason for their small successes this season.

Not on offense. Utah scored 24 points on 6 yards of offense. Utah had two defensive touchdowns and two other drives start inside the BYU 10.

I just haven't seen Chow accomplish anything of note over the course of an entire season for a long, long time.

So I think my Top 2 would be Crowton and Anae. Crowton is best in 2-year bursts, but he is good during those 2 years. Anae is decent, but always got more yards than he did points.

Chow is a grump, Crowton overlooked thug behavior, and Anae never got along with anyone. So Doman wins the personality award (despite "not talking to Heaps" for three months, or whatever the silly claim was).

What and Ken N. at Navy? Is he a defensive-minded coach?

None of the names listed are even close. There is only one OC at BYU. O'neill Chambers. 'Nuff said-I win.

Sorry folks - after Wynn went down and even before.

Utah had 3 brand new running backs with zip experience. Chow obviously picked the right one. That is experience. Then without Wynn - all he had was Hays. After taking his licks for 3 games with people like me thinking Utah would not win another game all season - Chow went 5-1 to end the season - yes - with a meltdown vs Colorado.

The OL was a rebuild too. Chow made something out of seemingly nothing.

You're right, Chow is a miracle worker, he was able to take that ragtag group of nobodies and ...turn them into the 109th best offense in the country! Don't kid yourself, the Utes defense won those games for them, it had very little to do with Norm Chow.
